What water temp is too cold to go without a wetsuit

I am doing an Olympic distance in late Georgia April. Water temps a week before the race are 67 F. Really do not want to get a wetsuit if I don't have too Rent or buy). I can vasoline up my lower legs, arms, neck exposed from trisuit. What temp is too cold? I'm pretty sure 67 won't kill me for the half-ish hour it takes to finish the 1.5k, but will is zap so much heat/energy that I may as well ride a tricycle?

Thanks,

Ted

The Dangers of Triathlon...Otters

This has to top the list of things you don't expect.

Triathlete who overcame car crash and cancer to compete in grueling races is left needing rabies shots after being attacked by OTTER during practice in lake

Learning to Swim in the Ocean for Triathlons

I completed my first Sprint Tri last year near Palm Springs and loved it. There is a Triathlon this year closer to my home (South Bay, West of Los Angeles) and I'd really like to give it another go! In my first Tri, I swam in a man made lake with still (very cold.... BRR) water. I'd really like to give this Tri in my area a go but I'm very fearful of learning to swim in the ocean. I'm excited about it but I'm wondering: 1) When is a good time of day to go out and train in the ocean? 2) I have a Tri suit already... What else do I need besides my goggles?

Swimmers Shoulder

I have a case of tendonitis in my left shoulder. I've continued to train and swim but it's progressively gotten worse. It doesn't hurt so much while swimming, but post workout it's very uncomfortable and there is no sleeping on my left side at night due to pain. I swam yesterday after taking 12 days off from swimming but that wasn't a long enough break to resolve the issue.

New swim drills

Hey all, my group has added two new drills in the past couple weeks, and I wanted to get your take on them:

The Great Crater Lake Crossing

Some of my Master's swimmers and I have been training for months to swim across Crater Lake. There is a boat manned by the park service that drops hikers off on Wizard Island and picks them up a few hours later. Instead of taking the boat back, we swam! About 6.3 miles, it took us around 2:40 of swimming time, but we were able to get out and warm ourselves on some rocks at around the halfway point. Water temperatures from about 56 - 61.

Aquaspotter™

Hey all, just wanted to get the word out about a new product that is just a few weeks away from being released. You ever go for an open water swim and get a little nervous because boats or jet skis go too close cause the couldn't see you? Well that happend to me a bunch of times last year while training for IMLP. So I came up with the product that will be coming out soon. Please take a moment to follow me on Twitter @GOATGear for more upcoming news.
