Running in sand?

by J.Michael on January 10th, 2009
Lately, I've been doing most of my running on the beach. 4 Tri's I did last year were beach runs and boy did I suck...... I tried running in the heat of the day to acclimatize myself. I did hill repeats to make sure I wasn't ill prepared for the 2 tris with much modulation. (Tallahassee) But the beach runs (on 5k one 10k) just kicked my butt. “Success is the ability to go from one failure to another with no loss of enthusiasm.” — Winston Churchill

by Gsal on December 22nd, 2008
I am participating in my first beer mile EVER tomorrow. It is going to be held every day before christmas eve each year. If anybody would like to hold one in your town go ahead and do it. The official rules are up on www.beermile.com The current "world record" is 5:09, so I'm looking to go after it tomorrow. "You can never be too rich or too skinny." -My doctor

Karhu M1's: Bad For Distance Running?

by Workerant47 on December 6th, 2008
I stopped in one of my local sport shops today and one of the staff made a comment about Karhu M1's being bad for long distance running (6 mile +). I've heard to the contrary. My concern is teh4 long term health of my knees, shins and ankles.

Ditching Technology

by rjnuck on December 2nd, 2008
I don't know about the rest of you but I am a tech addict. I never go out for a run without my Forerunner 305, iPod playing the workout playlist, and constantly checking my pace, heart rate and time. But I had a revelation yesterday!!

Zoot Shoes

by tiger10champ on October 28th, 2008
I am looking to compete in a sprint, olympic, half IM, and a marathon next year. Does anyone have any experience with Zoot shoes? I'm wondering if they will last for a whole season and if they are something comfortable to run in from 3 miles -- 26 miles. I was drawn to the style of the shoe but the product features seem to be everything I need as well. Any comments would be appreciated.

Gear for running in the dark?

by go 'gate 2006 on October 22nd, 2008
Now that the days are getting short, it's becoming dark near the ends of my after-work runs. Eventually it will be dark when I start running. I worry about tripping on something or injuring myself. What specific gear do you suggest for night running? Do any of you use headlamps? Reflective gear (jackets or pants)? - AT

I sweat! A lot! My clothes get waterlogged and heavy. Ideas?

by triguy123 on September 28th, 2008
Whenever I run more than 10K, I sweat completely through my clothes. I wear the nike dryfit shirts, and shorts, yet it's like I've been in the pool. Especially here in NY when it gets humid and overcast, and there's no sun. Any clothing recommendations?
