Help - I have 12 days to Train for the Bike part for a TRI

Hello,
Brand new to this forum - and everyone seems polite and has alot of good advice from what I have read.

I have been planning/training for a Tri for 4 years - I have a pretty serious Medical Condition that is now under control - so it has been a slow road. Have walked/run 3 half marathons, and alot of 5k's -

What should a 75% effort on the bike feel like?

Charity Biking

Just read about a 70 year old woman biking from Birmingham to Mexico for charity. Seems like she's going to do it for books and education. Can we do something like this one?

Stationary bike for tri training - anyone do a tri with little to no road training?

New to the Tri world but an 'old' mop hat in the running game (5k to 3:40 marathons).
I am taking this year as a base training year due to family responsibilities and want to do my first tri in Spring 2011.

Meditation and Triathlon

This will be my 2nd full season of racing in triathlons. Last year I raced in 8 triathlons, 6 sprint, 2 oly. I started racing three years ago, but started in September of 08 and only raced in 2 races. At the end of that year, I thought I was missing something, to me I needed more strength, not bulk, but just overall strength. I did P90X with mixed results, no fault of the programs but rather I let my triathlon training go away almost completely and P90X is child's play when it comes to cardio and endurance training.

overpacking the bike for Ironman

So I just finished packing for IMAZ and my inventory looks scary. I think the biggest thing is that I'm trying to over prepare for the bike and have to accept that it's a gamble.

On my way to tri

The past two years of my life have been quite interesting with all the events life has given me. Getting hit by a drunk driver, getting injured, recovering from an injury, graduating college, a new relationship, traveling half way across the country, exploring that relationships depth, then randomly meeting trisooner , the relationship ending, coming back trying to find a job, and sorting through all that a relationship ending brings. There was one thing that I have maintained through all of that though.

Workouts

Question: has there ever been a thread where people just post workouts they do for the benefit of other people looking for suggestions on a workout?

I propose we use a thread to just write down suggestions or previous work outs with whatever information you want to provide!

Confusion on gears when biking

Biking is by far my weakest area. While I am trying to get more time in the saddle to improve I am totally confused on the gears.

anyone bike early morning or late evening?

Due to our family schedule (my husband works in the evenings and I have 2 kids) the only time I am able to train is in the morning. Early morning, before the sun comes up. Now that winter is leaving I can jump on the bike in the morning however, I am nervous. The drivers around here are horrible and I can't image they are any better at 5:00 AM. I have all the procautionary equipment - lights, reflective vest, reflective stickers. Everything short of a neon blinking sign - and trust me - if i could I would buy one and have one of them too.
