Your Ironman is Over; What About Life As You Know It?

by Patrick McCrann on July 3rd, 2009
Fast forward to Tuesday or Wednesday after your Ironman. It's very likely that you're sitting on the couch, with your shattered legs on the coffee table, scratching your sunburned head as you try to remember your dog's name--which you've forgotten--because all you've thought about for the past 6-9 months is Ironman.

Tri Gut Check: Avoiding Race Day GI Distress

by Trismarter.com on June 25th, 2009
The finish line can seem awfully far away when you are plagued by gastrointestinal (GI) distress on race day. To be clear, the "GI tract" refers to the digestive system, or the mouth, esophagus, stomach, and intestines. Symptoms can range from heartburn, nausea and vomiting to cramping, bloating and diarrhea.

Pros:
Taste, speeds recovery, price (when on sale).
Cons:
mixing

I've been using Endurox R4 Recovery Drink after workouts for over a year now with good results. It definitely speeds recovery for me and provides a bit of a lift after a workout. For two workout days it's a must and a great insurance policy. The fruit punch tastes great. The only con is that the new formulation doesn't seem to mix as well as the old formulation so shake don't stir.

Good Shoe for the right runner

Pros:
Cushioning, comfortable, great new lacing pattern
Cons:
Soft, cushioned but no support

I rated the shoe a 3 because it is very comfortable. It is very soft though and is simply a cushioning shoe that doesn't provide a lot of support. I ended up putting 300 miles on it and then switched to another Asics model for slight motion control and my knee problem was almost instantly better. I've read elsewhere that others have complained of knee issues with this particular shoe

Pros:
Flexible, fresh, cool.
Cons:
Hard in the heel area.

Although this shoe is very light, fresh and flexible I did not like the cushioning system. Way too hard.

Ironman CDA 2009 Race Preview

by Patrick McCrann on June 15th, 2009
With just about seven days left before the race, athletes are in full-on taper mode, packing and reviewing final preparations before making the trek to beautiful Coeur d'Alene, ID. Without a doubt, a large part of pre-race anxiety is due to not knowing what race day will bring in terms of the course, weather, the competition, etc.

It floats a lot. Easy to take it off.

I've bought it for $339 at Bike Tech Miami and this is the best wetsuit I ever have. I tried six different sizes and picked size 8. Great product.

Pros:
Price, Weblink, accurate, not big, easy to navigate.
Cons:
none

I have had no problems with my Polar RS200SD. It is extremely accurate. and easy to use although more advanced interval monitoring is a little cumbersome. For anyone looking to purchase a heart rate monitor for the first time the RS200SD is a great start and has the weblink feature that lets you use Polar's software to breakdown and visualize your workout heart rate data. I have not used the foot pod so I can't comment on it. I've had very good luck with mine so far.

I have a season of ironman training in this bike and it is by far the best bike I have riden. Also, it is nice not to ride something different then a Cervelo like everyone and their mothers.

I recommend this bike to anyone looking for a speed machine.

Electronic Bike Shifting

by TriSports.com on June 9th, 2009
The evolution of the bicycle shifting continues. Shimano now has its new electronic Dura Ace Di2 gruppo. Sure there have been other companies that have tried to master this but I think Shimano is on to something with this one. Shimano Dura Ace
