Over the years, I've purchased plenty at this shop--aero bars, gear, suits, equipment--but I'm not exactly a regular. At a race packet pick-up one day, I bought a couple of energy bars. The owner rang me up, tossed my change & receipt on the counter, and sarcastically said, "Oh, now there's a big sale." I kind of laughed it off and said, "Don't worry, I've spent plenty here before." He pointed to his daughter upstairs and said something along the lines of, "That's good because we've got her to pay for, you know."

Wow, I can't believe a shop owner would make sarcastic and critical comments to a customer for making a small purchase and lay a trip on about the expense of children. It made me think twice whether that's the man I want my money going to--I'd rather give it to someone who would appreciate every little dime and quarter I spend.
