The watertight Powermeter is based on the particularly robust round housing made of hot-cured 7075 aluminum that has stood the test of time in thousands of racing bikes. It is available for both the square and Oktalink sealed bearing and can be equipped individually.

So the most affordable one is $2,295? I think I'd rather have a second bike.
i know - not cheap. I found a used one on ebay with two cranks (one for my road, one for my tri-bike). Was going to buy a set of race wheels, but can't do both and decided that I could rent a pair for the one or two really important races...
I rationalized that for me to not go too hard on the bike in the half irons that I'm doing this season (I hope to do a full IM (LP) next year), I need to know how much I'm pushing through the race and in training. I find it difficult to gauge, especially if you do a race that you have not ridden a few times before. I've gotten to the run and felt great (not often, but a couple times) and mostly felt exhausted, like i went out way too hard on the cycling.
Being able to track critical power at different distances (through training and in races) does come at a price - in this case it's got a pretty big price tag..
