Things I Should Do

posted October 6, 2008 by TryScott
Should have a strategy for nutrition instead of eating/drinking whenever I think about it. On long workouts, I should record when I eat/drink, my average HR/pace/speed, and how I feel. Should do a sweat test when hot, and another when cool. Should follow a training plan, not just create one.

Countdown To First IM

posted September 7, 2008 by TryScott
I'm not sure if she knows that I'm getting into, but my wife gave me permission to sign up for IM Cozumel.  Not that I needed motivation before, but right now I have more motivation to train than ever.

Swimming

posted August 28, 2008 by TryScott
For 6 weeks before my first tri, I logged an average of 2858 m/week.  Result was finishing 81/160 for the swim.  In my last triathlon I did not swim a single time for 6 weeks, and was 64/121 on the swim.  I was mid pack both times, so either 3k of swimming per week isn't enough to make a difference, or my swim training isn't effective.

Training Plan

posted August 26, 2008 by TryScott
Today I decided to organize my training.  Up until now, I've never planned training more than 24 hours in advance.  From this point on, I would like to have a plan for no  less than 2 weeks, and no more than 4 weeks out.  We'll see how it goes.  The time I think I have to train is a lot more hours/week than the time I've actually logged in the past.  Time will tell how it goes.

Vermilion Olympic Tri

I wasn't happy about not being able to use my bike for this, but taking mine was not an option.  Friday morning I woke up at 3:00am and decided to take the pedals and aero-bars off my bike so I could put them on the bike I'd be using.  At 4:30am I gave up trying to find the tools I needed and went back to bed.  At the airport, they took my co2, which I should of expected, but they also took

past - Good that I ran 40 miles 2 weeks ago, which is the most I've every done in a week. Bad that I wanted one more high volume week before my taper week, but kept finding reasons to not run.  Result is that I'm sore and tired somehow, but have nothing to show for.

Last Minute C Race

On Tuesday I heard that there was 5k right by where I work on Saturday.  Unfortunately I work 60+ miles from where I sleep, but I decided to sign up anyway.  This weekend will be the second time I've seen my brother since the Flying Pig Marathon in early May (he did the half, and I did the marathon).  He left for basic training 2 days after the race.  I thought he would enjoy a short race,

Why I Do Not Shave My Legs

posted July 25, 2008 by TryScott
1 - Wife is not impressed by the look.  In fact, she thinks it's more feminine than she would like her husband to be. 2 - It's more maintenance on top of my essential stuff 3 - I don't want to explain it to others. 4 - If I were to slack off, I really hate stubble. The stubble on Sunday night after not shaving for the weekend is bad enough.

Moved to southern Alabama over last weekend.  The commute to my new job is 60 miles longer than my commute in Ohio was.  Needless to say, my days are much shorter, and I'm going to struggle a bit to find training hours.  The good news is that I love the job.
