Check In

posted on August 5, 2008 by Tribro

Time for another check in for me. Since my 70.3 in June I've been trying to get focused on letting my sciatica issue clear and work on my cycling. So, I've been riding pretty much 5-6 days a week and working on core and flexibility to give the sciatica a rest. I love it, been road cycling and mountain biking for the most part. I love the mountain bike. Been doing 3-4 rides through the trails by the house and it's some good stuff. My cycling and fitness in general has much improved over the 6 weeks since that's been my focus.

A nice side effect I've found to just doing one sport and strength work, is I'm so less stressed to get in all the workouts, which in turn has allowed me to be healthier all around. I'm leaner than I've been in many years, and I can stand and touch my toes Wink. Something I haven;t been able to to do since high school cross country I think :)

So, my plan is to keep riding and really work on my bike strength while the weather here in Bend is ideal. I had a good race in June, but realized my body issues (aches and pains) aren't going to get better if I just keep pushing through the pain. For me to get myself to my potential I need to break things down and build them back up again. Cycling is my weakest (ironic isn't it) leg and a summer of riding and putting in lots of miles is the only way for me to break through and maybe put in a decent bike split next season. As well, to come off and run how I'd like, my sciatica needs to be fixed. Going to get some therapy on chiropractic work done soon as well.

So, that's where my trainings been. No tris in the near future, but staying fit and building my bike while having fun.

happy training Cool

Injuries suck! Glad to hear that you are still working out... I've done a bit more biking this year than running, I've enjoyed it and it has helped me get faster on the bike, now if I could only do that on the run... I hate running!

take it easy and enjoy your rides...
