What NOT to Say on Race Morning
I've heard some crazy things on race morning. What would you rather NOT hear from friends or family on the morning of your first race?
I put together some of my favorites on my blog. http://ironmakeover.blogspot.com/2008/09/what-not-to-say-on-race-morning.html
I'd love to add your suggestions.

You missed the classic "are you ready?" That one is my least favorite. I always want to say "no, so I figured I'd get 1/2 way through and just quit on principal."
I always say the first one, however... I'm the one without the wetsuit, but the water sure does always look really cold...
. . . that race directors should not say:
- "We are running a bit late because of the long lines at the porta potty. We'll start in just a few."
- "The transition area is closed until all athletes are finished." (i.e., You can't get your bike and leave until everyone is finished.)
- "There will be bananas and Gatorade at the post race tent." (Yeah, just what I want after eating the same for the past few hours.)
I hate hearing 'you're almost there' during a long race. Egg-specially when I'm really suffering. Sometimes I don't listen to my heart rate monitor.
I brought my daughters to a sprint race a few years back. They were 2 1/2 and 5 at the time.
They were watching me get into my wetsuit in a crowd of triathletes.
After I zipped up, my oldest daughter Amber said(rather loudly)
''Daddy, you look fat in that!!" which got lots of laughs.
I quickly replied "you should have seen me 40 pounds ago, I would have looked like a buoy''
You have to respect the honesty of young children, then get the duct tape!! ;-)
Thanks everyone! I enjoyed reading your favorite "don't say this" race-day expressions.
jnrice, you're right, "are you ready?" is a classic and IS annoying!
slammy, the water sounds, looks and feels cold sometimes.
TriSooner, I hadn't thought about it from a race director standpoint, that's for that angle.
jhudalla, "you're almost there" is especially annoying on a double-loop course when you have 13.1 miles to go...
beads1985, kids come up with some crazy statements. I'm happy most days when my wetsuit zipper goes up!
Thanks to all. This was a lot of fun.
