beginner to elite to pro

posted on October 18, 2009 by HammerTIMe93

I am a young triathlete who has a big dream.  I want to eventually become a pro triathlete.  I don't know how i can intensify my training so that i can become faster.  Is there some guidelines or things that i can do, in order to become an elite triathlete.  I know that these things don't happen overnight but how can i get started on the journey?

Sure, it's easy. Depending on your distance, but let's say it is Olympic distance, you'd start with wins. Lots of AG wins and Top 10 OA in local USAT-sanctioned races. Winning sprints won't do you any good. Monitor your USAT annual regional rankings and look to be consistently near the top in your AG (at least top 10). Compete in races with national-caliber competitors (e.g., Chicago, Hy-Vee, Lifetime, Toyota US Open) and finish near the top or have a Top 3 split in something. Qualify for the USAT Naitonal Championship and then place in your AG.

How about AG placing in HIM? doesn't sound so easy but i hope to race in some junior ITU races i know i need a coach but i dont know of any coaches who could help me with ITU any IDEAS? i am a member of a local club and the coaches there will help me in completing my first HIM? i would like to become an elite at the Longer distance levels but ITU looks really fun and fast
