Going, Going Gone
It seems IronMan races are no longer the only events selling out in the blink of an eye, 100 mile trail runs have joined in on the feeding frenzy as well. Yes folks, that is correct, 24+ hour, 100 mile trail running foot races thru some of the hilliest, rockiest, rootiest and ankle twistiest parts of the the country are now selling out in hours.I was considering signing on for the Umstead100, April '09, but I felt I needed a few extra days to chew on the idea. Huh uh, wrong, you snooze you lose. The race was sold out online by noon registration day. Now granted, Umstead has a combined 50 and 100 mile registration cap, so if more people are hitting the 50 mile race, it doesn't matter, once 280 runners are signed up that's it. If there are 278 runners doing the 50 miler, there will be just 2 slots for 100 miles. Highly inequitable, but that's an issue for another day. Next time, there will be no hesitation!hey, pssst, pssst, yeah you... want a deal on a 100 mile trail run, MMT100 opens registration December 4th--mums the word, don't tell anyone, shhh..... keep it under your hat.
(Immediately goes and googles 'MMT100'.)
There are tons of 100 milers that never fill up...
Old Dominion for example...The Delaware 100 mile fat ass in September...the list goes on.
I've seen this before. Ultras get hip and it dies down. They are just too hard. Much harder on you than Ironman.
