Is This My Immune System?
Not sure about the immune thing, what is the temp.? Make sure you are getting plenty of fluids including juices. Right now minute maid has and OJ out that has Glucosamine in it which would help both of your problems. As for the IT take good care of it, stretch ALL the time, at work, in the shower, before bed, etc. Get a foam roller pad or a rolling pin and have someone roll that down the side of your leg (it hurts) but this is one of the best things I have found for IT injury. Good luck.
What it sounds like to me is that the temperatures outside are getting colder. This is the same type of response I usually get with my first few runs in cold weather. If these long runs have been cold temperature runs, I would say that this is the problem.
Maybe seasonal allergies too?:D
Hello my friend, I will go with the majority of the guys already posted here. Your congestion and general feeling after your long runs might be related to the changes in temperatures at this time of the year.
Probably and inmunological depresion would show up with an infection more than congestion, ex: sinusitis, laringitis, or even pneumonia.
Now, make sure at this crucial time of your training before your marathon, to get: plenty of fluids (juices, water, sport drinks), plenty of caloric support in your diet, enough protein to repair tissue and mantain your inmune system running, and supplement yourself with a good multivitamin plus zinc (zinc is a well known inmuno booster).
Best of luck in your training.

Hi All:
Thanks for the advice.
I never drink juice, as it generally just isn't in the house. I'll get on that Minute Maid stuff.
Thanks all!

I Believe In Cross Country

For the last two weeks, I have been doing my long runs on Saturdays. (A 14 miler and then a 20 miler, respectively).
Following the long runs, I find myself coughing a bit, and then congested with a runny nose, sneezing, and feeling very mellow and almost fatigued during the day. This usually lasts until about Wednesday or so, then it seems to disappear.
Is this my immune system breaking down after the long runs? I’m training for the Manchester City Marathon (Nov. 4), and bringing my mileage slowly up. Focusing largely on key workouts such as the long run, and some maintenance runs during the week, as I have been having an ITB issue that is off and on.
Does anyone else experience this? Thanks.
