a belated hello
Very cool indeed. I just ran my first one a few weeks back and am addicted too. I"m working up from sprint distance hoping to get to HIM by the end of next summer. I've picked up a lot here and I'll bet you do as well. Sounds like quite a life so far - here's to getting ironman strong.
To tri or not to tri - that's not a question at all!
Sounds like your body could use a break from some of those impact sports.
Welcome, officially. You're off to a great start, keep us posted on your progress. Good luck on the next race and keep on tri-ing.

I guess it is stepping out of the shaddows... but perhaps into the darkness! ;) Welcome!

I've been around here for a few weeks but didn't think it appropriate to post an intro until I'd actually done a triathlon.
My name's kim and I live in Sydney, Australia. I have a wife and two kids (who I spoil terribly), and turn 49 next month.
I've always been pretty active, playing running sports like soccer, touch football, cricket and basketball and I'm currently studying for my black belt grading in Judo. It's kind of ironic I should end up doing triathlons when I never really did any of the sports beforehand.
My body clearly shows the signs of an active life. A knee reconstruction (basketball), fracture dislocation of shoulder (soccer), various other fractures (mainly judo) and some pretty severe arthritic deterioration mean I've had far more contact with surgeons than I'd have liked. I had an L4/5 fusion 2 years ago and it was this surgeon who got me into swimming. I'd been riding for about a year before that to try and lose weight for the surgery. At my worst I was 92kg but I'm now hovering around 78kg. I don't even know how I got interested in triathlon - I think it found me.
I'm just loving the challenge of tris even though I'm only starting out small. I'm in awe of the folks here who do Oly's, HIM and Ironman's - you are truly inspirational. If I can acquire some of the dedication of you folks and apply it to my sport and family life, I'll be a very happy man.
