LOL! Yeah, I got to the office after a 50 minute ride yesterday - with the brown dirty streak up my back and chest, mud spatters on my face, glasses smudged, - my socks, white when I started were a soggy gray. The woman from the office down the hall laughed when she saw me!
I hung stuff on the back of the door, over the spare computer, the door handle, shoes propped up against the wall, and as I sipped my hot coffee, after having donned clean dry clothes and shoes, I had a chuckle too.
Ahh, the joys of off-season training!

Must be nice! We're in the grips of a drought...8-10 inches below normal, with some communities starting water restrictions...I would love a chance to do anything outside in the rain..
A few more weeks of this and I'm going to start looking for a Stilsuit!

BBB, I hope you didn't take that pic from the bike - hairing down the centre lane on the - what is that? The Oak street bridge? - verrry scarrry!
Do you use the sidewalks crossing the bridges?

Na, I got that from the internet. It's the Granville Bridge coming into the center of the City about over 6th Ave. I take the sidewalks of all bridges all the time. Buggers here target you. EVERY day I have a "'Near Miss" Man, do I have stories! Stop signs?? What are those? People don't even acknowledge those! We have had some spooky days of rain lately. I think, well, I KNOW it's just gonna get worse. My prediction is worse weather than last year. Rain, rain and more rain. S'ok though. I have all the stuff I need to ride anywhere. Any time on a bike is a good time. :-)

i just let my feet get wet during the winter (unless it's actually near freezing; then i do the neoprene with plastic bags, both for wind and wet)...stuff some newspaper in the shoes when i get to work and sit them next to the cpu for the day and they're dry by the evening commute.
i love that truck splash photo on your blog; the granville bridge shot too!...that's what this morning's downpour felt like. :D
definitely try to be more visible in the gray, wet of the season, everyone!

We've been lucky here so far. With trying to get 200km bricks in for IM FLA, rain would definetely dampen my spirits! Looks like this sat will be nice for my death ride (220km). so far I've only been rained on once since August! I must have horseshoes!
If the weather gods give me one more good weekend after this one I will build a small temple (or something equally as ridiculous) in their honour:>
OMG I was just in Portland yesterday and today---was watching all the bike commuters this morning as I left to head back up here to Kirkland. I was in the biggest TORRENTIAL down pour leaving town and when I got home here. Supposed to DUMP the next few days
Syd, you are a trooper all the best for a successful T-giving this weekend. AND you can eat much, much, much after the ride!!
Britt, it's been terrible riding in this crap. I hate all seasons except summer :-P Are you still riding? How 'bout Tony?

Yes he has every day! Since I am not working, my riding has been mostly commuting around town. I have been focusing more on running now.
I tell you it was raining so hard on my way back up from Portland today I could barely see the road it was so dark.

Tony, riding up Richter

In Taiwan, I saw an old couple on a scooter in the rain - Grandma was holding an umbrella over the pair of them while Grandpa piloted them through traffic and he had a cigarette hanging from his lip!

maybe BBB but you have to agree the extra car wheel in the back + a release mechanism would be an interesting way to get rid of drafters

I don't mind drafters as long as they pull me eventually. You know, share (I watched Sesame Street as a kid).

Well, the season just officially changed this week with rain predicted everyday. Today's drenching commute was my reminder to put fenders back on the bike.....
To stay on topic and not hyjack poor tri-ac's thread I thought I'd share the following fenders with y'all. They are all I use. Quick on and off as we ride.
I love'sm and they are easily put into the backpack when roads are dry. They come as a pair (front and back). I use a splash gaurd on the fixie cause the space from the wheel to the tube is too narrow, btw that's an old pick of the fixie. Works just as well.

so I head out for my run today (12 miles). The hail at mile 3 should have been my queue to turn around--but no. Soon after hail turned to a TORRENTIAL DOWNPOUR. By mile 5 I was SOAKED. Then rain turned to hail again. Finally by the time I was 2 miles from home I needed SUNGLASSES! WHAT THE HECK!
PS BBB- those are the fenders I have on my commuter--really like them
nice run brittda!I've been trying to build a deck in the backyard.
i managed to get the framing up last weekend between cloudbursts, but who the hell knows what to expect this weekend?
RAIN both days up here--which means I need to get out and perhaps get some leaves up today(we have a tree next door that dumps tiny tiny leaves everywhere, and it has started again)
I was out in Seattle earlier this week, and of course had to get in training. Yuck! Had some very cold, wet, rides and runs. Even though I lived there for the first 22 years of my life - it still sucks. Glad to be back in the 80* weather of DC. :)

you're in DC and excited to be away from humidity? i guess that season just ended for you guys...i do NOT miss DC summers
No, I'm in DC because..well...I'm not sure why I'm here.
To be clear though - there's a big difference between 50* rain, and 80* rain. Also a big difference bewteen rain and humidity. Humdity sucks, rain's cool (as long as it's not 50*). I like 80* rain, kinda fun.
I also dislike DC summers. Seattle August rocks!

Yes, but even though the rain is sort of sucky--we rarely get cold enough to have to run in anyting than shorts--my personal cut of is 40 deg. Other than last winter--most years I only need to don a pair of tights a handfull of days a winter. LOVE THAT,, also great for training for a January marathon, which I do annually. I dont mind running rain so much as biking, but even that is doable and you dont need to worry about slipping across the road and killing yourself! This means you can cycle through most of the winter!

Well, the season just officially changed this week with rain predicted everyday. Today's drenching commute was my reminder to put fenders back on the bike...it's a little like that first open water swim of the season: soaking cold that reminds you of all the little things that need attention: drying paraphanelia at work, bike lights, skull cap to prevent brain freeze on the shorn noggin, a frame pump instead of CO2. Gloves and warm layers aren't necessary yet, but, in some sense, it's welcome to winter for the next 6 months...
don't get me wrong, i love being outside (so much better than driving), but that first soaker of the season is always a kick in the pants...
