Hey,

I have a marathon in on 10/13. ON saturday I did my last 20 mile run. Since I have ITB Band Syndrome (and am going to a physical therapist for it) I was planning on not running at all until the marathon. My concern, however, is the three week taper/no running period. I'd love some opinions on this decision. Do you think I will loss any fitness and not be able to have a good marathon run? Is it better to go into the marathon without pain and a little less training? Any other tips?

Thanks

mlbucey

I had IT back in the spring and was able to keep my fitness up with a lot of cycling. I was racing 10k's, though. From my experience, I would say to bike for about 2 weeks, then get just a couple runs in before the marathon. I'm also a big fan of 800mg of ibuprofen an hour before the race to help keep the IT from swelling during the race (it's worked very well for me several times).
