I'm still very very tempted, although I really just don't know if I'll be able to swing it.
Team name ideas yet?
TEAM TRIFUEL, of course! :D Ohh...I'm in! My Swiss mister is okay with this adventure...as long as he doesn't have to "drive the RV for 24 hours!" I even had a dream last night that we all met for the race.....

It sounds very tempting. Not possible for me this year. I'd be very interested in how it goes. Good luck!
That sounds so cool. Believe me I would love to join you guys but don´t know I can make it next year.
Hyperactive Trifueler!!!! (I refuse to let the status go :p)
see Team Trifuel just needs some sparks... Of course Trifuel or Trifuelers will have to be in it though.
You know, I was reading that in the Super Ultra teams (1-4 people) we wouldn't have to maintain a 10:30 average, we'd just have to start earlier than 5:30am. Just in case we can only get 4 on board...and of course, that would make for a longer run :D
And, how are we going to decide who runs which leg???
My blog: http://star.trifuel.net
I'll take the highest and steepest leg...I like bleeding from the nose and gasping for breath.
I'll leave the other legs to you TGGW!

Thanks for offering to do the tough leg, Anton, but I was going to volunteer you any, since you're the ultra old, wise one! Well, uhhh, you know what I mean :p
Anyway, do you think that this course will be one of those "tougher than a 50-mile course" you were talking about?

I lived in Colorado back in the 70-'s for three years and ran a lot there. The altitude became no big deal..Now, coming from the lowlands the altitude will be a factor...but the course appears to be all on roads either paved or dirt...weather will be a factor too. Storms in the afternoon...cold nights.
Two schools of thought on altitude.
1. Get in and Get out. Arrive the day before,do the event and leave seems to minimize the effects of high altitude.
2. Get there early and acclimatize for 6 to 10 days prior.

OK, I looked this up on Wikipedia and had to show you:
Elevation of Denver= 5280 feet
Elevation of Tampa=20 feet
I didn't even come close in Klagenfurt (at 1463 ft) or Frankfurt (at 367 ft) to Denver's elevation. Hmmm...this could be fun. So, do you like get a high from being that high up? :D Hey, if I'm loopy from altitude problems, then it just might be even more fun than I expected!

OK, how about the team name: "Gimme Fuel?" First, sorta it has the name (tri)fuel in it, and it reminds me of that Metallica song, that says: "gimme fuel, gimme fire, give that which I desire" and goes on to kick your butt into gear! I came up with that one on my long drive to my long run early this morning...of course, I had had some coffee, because at 5:00am, my brain wouldn't have been functioning

I like that one... perhaps with an answer? "Gimme Fuel.... TRIFUEL! ;) Although I guess I don't get a vote since I still doubt I'd be able to be there.
I emailed the WWR race director with questions about the altitude issue, and here was his response:
I will try to answer your altitude question as well as I can. It normally takes 3 weeks for someone to become acclimated. So even when we in Denver go to 9 - 10,000 feet, we feel the effects. Professional sports teams have actually determined it is better for them to show up close to game day rather then a couple of days before. So really the best you can do is show up when you can, take your time, and really pay attention to your hydration. Also, if all of your teammates live under 2500 feet, I do have the "Flatlanders" category so you are competing against other folks who are suffering oxygen deprivation.
Another thing you can do is to shoot an email to Jon Sinclair, a coach, who has offered to answer questions like yours. http://www.wildwestrelay.com/Runners/coaching.html Look forward to seeing you next August! -Paul Vanderheiden
Maybe the flatlander's category is something to consider...? Also, I love the phrase "suffering oxygen deprivation!" Sounds like fun! Thought this might be helpful in planning.

Just practice running while holding your breath.;)
So, I've been thinking...I may volunteer for the night shift at the WWR. I've been enjoying running in the dark for some odd reason
Anyway, here is another response from the RD: I am totally updating the website and I will add a Flatlanders category for 6x6. I know we've had it in the past, probably just wasn't on the website. If you have less than six people, to be considered competitive, you will need to maintain the runner order. If you want to have a team where runners don't maintain the order, I have a non-competitive category called Helter Skelter.
If you don't think you can maintain a 10:30 average, we can talk about starting earlier, or skipping a leg or two to keep you up with the pack so exchanges are still open. We'll figure something out.
So, it sounds like whatever kind of team we can form we'll be able to work it out with the RD. As of now, we have 4 people and that would = around 50 miles each!

I'm still on the fence.... really really tempted, despite what life might throw at me that week ;) It might just mean a last minute arrival. Still fighting my head about it.
Come on, sister! With you we'd have The TriFuel 5 ... I'm sure you can work it out. With this race and, of course a subsequent vacation in Colorado, I probably won't be able to talk my Swiss Mister into coming out to Cali for any of the 70.3 races. This may be my big one for the year, but then again...
My blog: http://star.trifuel.net
I'm working on it... I've already harassed the grad program to get me info on date and times of things, but the actual schedule hasn't been set yet! Working on it :)
Make that the trifuel four...I'm going to have to cut some financial corners next year and have to let a few things go...WWR is going to be one...Sorry :( When ya only make 40K a year ya have to be judicious in which goals you pick. Throw in a new roof and a major plumbing fix and it's goodbye far away fun!
Thanks for the recognition there Kylie...that was original!

Boo-hoo Anton! If Kylie doesn't get time, and Beads doesn't reply, I guess I'll have to go solo....:(

I love my new sig! :)
Yeah, I hear ya on the financial decisions. This sport is fun, but I'm glad I enjoy the training so much since I tend not to race a lot!

Ok here is the official trifuel spot for planning these WWR shinnanigans! This way we can relinquish the UR thread to UR ers. Which includes us!
