So I was reading race information for Cancun´s 1/2IM and noticed....

"If you get VIP TENT access you have to change your confirmation for the access bracelet..."

So the question is what do they have on this tents? Who is allowed in and how do you get allowed in?

This is going to be probably my first oficial IM 70.3 so probably I will have many many questions in the following months.

I'm not going to pretend that I know what’s in the IM VIP tent, but generally, from my experience, these things are setup to help the marketing folks (form the various sponsors) do their thing - peddle their wares, work deals, schmooze their suppliers, etc... Usually the free stuff is much more upscale - think wetsuits vice coozies - that kind of stuff. There may be some pros hanging out in there along with high level corporate types especially if the Pro has a representative sponsor setup in the VIP tent. Usually you have to be invited by someone that has the authority to provide you with a pass. My guess is that once you get one they must have some type of marking (bracelet in this case) that will allow you to freely come and go from the tent. But again, I don't have a clue how much schmoozing will be going on at a Tri so this is merely speculation based on my experience in other areas.

I spent a lot of time in the VIP tent at IMLP this year. They had catered meals in the tent all day, chilled waters, Gatorades, soft drinks, etc. So, food was the only benefit of VIP tent access, albeit a big one for me.

How to get in? I don't know about Cancun, but at LP it seemed like most of the VIP's were veteran IM volunteer coordinators and their friends (I was just a friend).

Thanks guys. I was just curious about what happened there. Not really wanting to get in since I didn´t even know what they were about.

Thanks
