Kona Training Week 11
26 mph
Nice work! I usually find being mentally pumped up for a race makes an enormous difference, so for you to do so well while not looking forward to the the race is a great feeling I'm sure.
...and by my math that is 26.95 mph assuming the 40k was accurate.

Nope, it's just a wee bit short, it comes in just over 24 miles.

Congrats on a great race day. That is an impressive bike split and training run mile pace. Looks like all your hard work is paying off big time. I wish you the best of luck in the coming weeks as you wrap up your training and get ready to tackle Kona.
Bryan, out of curiousity, have you scheduled some taper time before the big race and if so, when do you start relaxing some of your intensity and distances?

Pain is the sensation of weakness leaving the body!

Next week is taper with a lot of swims. Then it's autopilot! :D

Woohoo! I can't wait to stay up late watching the webcast.
Knowing the kind of times he's capable of, you won't have to stay up late. Rock on RED5 and good luck!

Well I hope I won't be staying up late for Bryan, but I like watching the whole thing. It makes me feel all warm and fuzzy to watch everyone finish!

Swim- 6600 yards
Bike- 94 miles
Run- 31.5 miles
Total Time- 10 hours
Had an abbreviated training week this week in order to participate in the Nathan Tempe Olympic Triathlon race on Sunday. I began the week in perfect fashion for preparing for an 10K run with back to back 9 mile runs on Tuesday and Wednesday at a 6:37 pace. I found my speed mojo. I also managed a 50 mile ride averaging 23 mph, so I was feeling strong for the race. My coach had made me due an Olympic race 3 weeks prior to IMAZ under duress. I was so worried I would race and do porely and it would be a blow to my confidence. Instead I rocked and nearly beat Gordo Byrne on the bike, so it was a huge boost in the end.
So I go into this race....feeling like I didn't want to be there, again, despite the good result before. I mean, what if I mess up and just suck? Well, fortunatley I didn't and came through in a Olympic distance PR of 2:00:24, 6th overall and 2nd in my age group. I also, for the second time this year, had the fastest bike split on the day of 55:20 @ 26mph.
Less than 3 weeks to go and I feel more ready than ever.
