Just checking out the Trek website, and it looks like what used to be the 1500 is now the Trek 1.5. Same price but downgraded components. I looked and looked but I can't find where the money is going on the bike compared to my 1500?

Well there is always the Trek Madone SSLx , but that may be a little too expensive.

what are the spec's on your current 1500? the new 1.5 looks about the same as my old steed. I had tiagra group set, alloy frame and carbon forks. the 1.5 has way better wheels. remember that thats just the ticket price head down to you LBS and see what deals you can come up with.

My 1500 has all 105 comps except for the rear der. which is ultrega. Carbon fork, carbon seat post. Alpha race alum. frame. Nothing above what every other 1500 had. 1050$.

New 1.5 has tiagra/sora set up. Alpha alum frame. 1039$

Note: im not buying a bike, just wondering why what seems to be the same bike is now less bike for the same money.

Probably the same reason that other consumer items go up year to year... prices just tend to go up.

I am friends with a local Trek dealer. Apparently, the cost of overseas manufacturing and transportation have gone up. And so have the prices. The E7 went up $300. I havent seen the pricing on other brands '08 models, so I cant say its an indutry wide thing, but I would imagine it is.

Life is short. Play hard and get dirty doing it.
