Yesterday I did the Deer Creek triathlon. It is near colombus ohio and took me about an hour to drive there from where I live. The race I did was a sprint, with a .6 mile swim, 12.4 mile bike and 5k run, however, there were many different races to choose from, such as the duathlon and the half ironman. This was to be my 3rd triathlon of the year, making for an extremly addicting first season of triathlons : )
As I started, it was pretty chilly outside, but nothing more then it usally is this time of year. The race announcer said that the temperatur of the lake was 71 degrees. "71 degrees" I thought, " That's like a nice summer day" Wow, was I wrong! When I stepped in, It felt ike a giant tub of ice. As soon as the race started and I put my face in the water, I immediatly began hypervenilating. I had to keep my face up and out of the water., doing a weird breast stroke- doggie paddle thing. Anytime somebody kicked water in my face, I immediatly begin hypervenilating again. I had to swim the whole part of the race like that, letting all the smart people who wore wetsuits pass me.As I happily ran out of the ice bath water, I noticed most of the bikes were gone, extremly disappointing to this swim team member who is normally very much farther ahead then I was at that point.
The bike ride was a lot more pleasant. The course was very beautiful, thaking me around a state park, and mostly downhill. It began to warm up on the bike and I averaged a blazing 9.6 miles per hour along the whole course , up from 8.5 on last month's hily course.(biking truly is my weakest leg)!
The run was also very enjoyable. I always love running and on this course we were able to run on grassy fields near a lake and over a bridge. I even passed two people on the run and by then, I was actually starting to feel hot. I was almost ready to jump in the lake again.Just kidding!
At the finish,I sprinted toward the finish line, and actually beat last month's time by 5 minutes. I also knew I was getting in shape because I was alot less tired at this race then I was, even at the previous triathlon a month ago.
Overall, I had a great time, however, next time I pick a race in late september,I am going to wear a wetsuit or pick a duathlon!

Good job picking up 5 min from your trial run-thru!

I really wish I could have done that. I heard the announcer keep saying the water temp and I thought "Not so bad". But I was wrong.
Some of those people coming out of the water looked as though it was just right.

Who looked like the water was just right? The winners? Maybe they were swimming fast to get out of the cold:)

Some of those guys and girls took off in the water and came out of the water so fast that they looked like it was just right!

Maybe they went fast because they wanted to get out of the freezing water : ) As soon as the water was shallow enough to stand on, I ran out of the water as fast as I could!
