Bike Power Interval from Hell!!
ooooo.....fun! :D Your coach seems a little sadistic.....I like him!
I did power intervals last week, too. Definitely out of commission for a few days after that! It's funny that our training seems to overlap so much since we're at opposite ends of the distance spectrum.

This has been my training build adding speed work to my aerobic work. I know I have the engine, now it's time to fine tune. :D

I think I found a picture of your coach.hahahaha
that looks about like what I had pictured
Wait a minute, that's my mom !
I agree, foam at the mouth brutal man. Nice gig Bryan. Let me ask though, did you rest up after w a rest day or what was done? I take it this was the only interval session on the bike for the week or no?

There are no excuses - so don't look for them. As a product of your own choices, you directly determine your life outcomes.
Don't think, just do.

I think it should be reversed:
do as many intervals as you can at a given degree of difficulty - when you fall below the threshold limit, you're done, the workout is over. Come back next week.
Falling below the goal limit of output effort should be indicative of performance-ability, not motivation.
In other words, in my scenario, you didn't fall below 360 because you weren't paying attention, but rtather because you had reached the limit of your fitness on that day.
Hanging in there to do more, is to risk injury.

First of all, that picture is awesome and I have to show him.

Libor- No rest for the weary, I did a swim and 7.5 mile run today. Felt really good, actually. Bike intervals don't leave me trashed like track intervals.
PoC- I think it would be tough to hurt yourself pushing on the bike on the Computrainer. Since it's so static, you can't torque or contort yourself in an effort to spin harder and faster. Your legs just start to burn and you feel like you are going to hurl, but once it's over, you recover within a min or so. The intervals are so short.

This was a new one and oh so much fun... I just got back from doing 60 min of bike intervals on the CompuTrainer. 1min x 10 w/ 2 min recovery at a base power threshold.
So coach has me warm up for a little bit. When I'm ready, I do a 1 min. interval as hard as I can. He uses an approximate average for that first set to establish a base power level. He started me at 400 watts, but lowered it to 360 watts after the second attempt as 400 was going to prove too hard for me do 10 times. Now. it's not the average you do for the remaining 9 sets, 360 is the absolute bottom limit. If you drop below it at ANY point, you get more sets added. So I start trying to stay above 360 watts for 60 seconds. I think I managed to not drop below once, so I was in the penalty box. Had I managed all 10 without dropping below 360, I would get to stop. The slightest change in your position or changing gears totally blow your watts, just for an instance, but thats all it takes.
After the initial 10 x 1min. intervals, I get a 3 min recovery and get to try again. If I drop below 360, I immediately go back to recovery for 20 seconds and then try again. I did this 3 more times. Then I get a chance to stop if I can hold above 360 for 40 seconds. Same deal, as soon as I drop below 360, I go to recovery for 20 seconds and go again. It took two tries, but I finally mangaged a 47 second stint above 360 and was able to stop.
IT WAS BRUTAL.
