I have a slot for this year's IMFL and last week I had a problem that will keep me from training for 4-5 weeks which pretty much puts an end to any chances I have of competing. So my question is whether it is unethical to sell the spot? I'm already past the point of getting anyhing back from the race and I don't want the spot to go to waste.

And is anyone interested?

As I understand it, the slot is non-transferable. If it was not I would certainly take it.

Do you plan to disclose to the buyer that it's against the rules and that you both face a suspension from NAS if caught? Would you also advise him that, if he is in an accident, the race insurer likely would not cover treatment and taht future insurance for the event could be jeopardized? On the practical side, M-Dot events are some of the few that actually check photo IDs--are you going to advise him to bring a fake?

Yeah I definitely wouldn't (sell or buy it). It is very much against the rules and hard to do.

Sorry that you won't be able to participate.
Unfortunately you can't sell it or roll it over as the other posters have indicated.

I guess you might as well go and get the free stuff at least. Maybe someone will buy the swag off of you... :D

Have you contacted the Race director about a deferral so you can do it next year?

If you explain your issue they may help you out.

Nothing to it, but to do it

well you missed the official withdrawl date:
http://www.nasports.com/withdrawal/index.php

and FYI USAT rules on illegal entry:
