I ended my first season in triathlon with a 4:59 half IM on Saturday (38:00/2:40:00/1:36:00), up next is IM in August 2008, the training plan I may use is the trifuel one

anyone used this? Is it good for someone of my abilty?

i want to get a stand alone marathon under my belt too, when is a good time to do that, there is the big one in St. Louis in early April, is that too close to a late August IM?

Great time on your HIM, congrats!

April would work for the mary, I usually do an early season marathon. There'll be plenty of time to build a base over the balance of the year and begin an 18 week marathon training plan for the April race.

The tri training during this will make you a stronger runner, but the running won't interfere with your IM plan. Just remember, start slow and don't injure out.

Check out different marathon plans, Marathon The Ultimate Training Guide, Hal Higdon is good, but look around and see what works for you.

Good luck.

I don't need to get faster, I just need to get older!

Spazz,

It looks like we are in very similar boats (although your boat is a better runner than mine).
I just did my first HIM 2 weeks ago, and will be doing IMKY 08. My time was 5:08 (31:52/2:39:36/1:51:59).

I too am trying to figure out my training plan for the next year, although I don't think I'll do a marathon before it (I'm not a great runner). That online one looks pretty good. But I'm still working on my plan (aka. I don't have one)

Good luck. Too bad we can't train together (at least on the bike!)

yeah running is my best sport, i need to figure out how to stop putting up these bad swim times within the next year, but yeah, this trifuel plan is 36 weeks so it will start in January, i'm somewhat confused about what to do between now and january though

I am in the last 8 days of the Trifuel IM plan. It is my first attempt, so I have nothing to compare it with. My background in tris is very similar to yours. Did a HIM last year and decided to go for it. The plan is doable and I got through it without any injury. I did add some time to the long rides and runs though.

I also did an April mary and it didn't hurt the training at all. You just have to adapt and slow down a little bit at the time.

I'll let you know if it worked.
