Hi everyone. I've been lurking for a while and with my first sprint tri coming up, decided to register.

I got talked into doing this by my sister-in-law who is also doing her first sprint tri. I have never done any bike or running races so this is my first experience at this.

I recently got into running because my doctor told me to loose some weight. I'm just short of having lost 50 (maybe 5 more to go)! I usually run 5-6 days a week. Since I decided to do this tri, I've also tried to bike and swim several times a week. I swim with my kids on a summer comp team at our pool and am still in ok condition from that. I'm slowly building some endurance on the bike. Tomorrow, I scheduled a ride / run brick. Feeling pretty good about that!

My goal for this first tri is simple. I want to finish! I am pretty confident that I can make it. I've been having fun learning about this sport and training for this particular race. I hope this will be something I will continue and improve on for quite a while.

Welcome! I'm new to the BB, too.

Roanoke is a cool little town. I used to go there regularly on business. What's the triathlon scene like there? Lots of clubs and races in the area?

Welcome to the board! What used to bring you all the way down here from WI?

I'm just getting into the triathlon scene here. I know there is a tri group that meets once a month but I haven't been able to get there because of schedule conflicts. There is also a group in Blacksburg that I hooked up with thru my sister-in-law (who also got me doing tri's in the first place). They have a couple of really good coaches.

I'm still trying to learn as much as I can about all of this and am setting some goals for next season. I've very excited and can't wait to get going!

I'm a marketing freelancer & had a client downtown. Meridium.

Isn't Blackburg where Virginia Tech is located? I know they have a tri team.

Have fun!

Yeah, Tech is in B'burg. Their tri team was at the race I was at this past weekend. Nice bunch of kids.

I know Meridium -- applied for a sales job there a few years ago. Seems like a decent company.
