Hey Yall,
Wednesday, I hit a rabbit on my mid-week ride, and dumped my bike big-time.... Suffered a banged up left knee and elbow, lots of blood, and a 30 mile ride after the wreck.
Got home from a short run last night, trying to get the knee to respond to a gentle run, and iced the knee down to prevent further swelling...
And I fell asleep with the ice pack on the knee. Woke up 90 minutes later with swelling and redness of the knee, seems the towel around the ice-pack had slipped, letting the ice-pack come in direct contact with the skin.
So this morning, I have a bum knee, a 1st degree burn on the back of the knee, and a Champioship Race on Sunday.
Just a warning to watch the ice-packs, and make sure you don't spend too long with the ice-pack on the leg/arm/etc.
I need to finish on Sunday to win the Ohio Clydesdale Championship (hfpracing.com), but it could be a very ugly race, if the knee doesn't get any better before Sunday.
Wish me luck!
I wish you the best, keep us updated on how you do.
Geez, sorry to hear about all that.
Hope it all eases up to let you race successfully.
The question is..Is the race on Sunday worth the possible additional damage to the knee and long term recovery?
I'll send tons of good Karma your way, but sometimes discretion is the better part of valor.
wow. hope it heals up for the race, but like Anton said, don't push it.
I hope your recovery is fast.
I'm going to at Portage Lakes for that race also on Sunday. Good luck.
Again, make sure you are healed up... Internal blood clots, although it doesn't sound like you have these, can open up when you get the blood up and flowing.
By the way... How is the rabbit?
That sucks. Hope you recover quickly.

Yeah, no more Easter EGGS for you!
Many commiserations, fellow Clyde and I wish you better luck on the w/e.
Maybe you could take a rabbit's foot with you?
Maybe not.

Sorry to hear this, I hope that you heal quickly!
are you having rabbit stew for dinner tonight?
I hates rabbits!!! (In Yosemite Sam's voice)

(Darn shame I can't post an audio..I do a mean Elmer Fudd...especially with this cold!)
Haha. Elmer Fudd.
Greyhound - good luck man, I hope you heal up quickly. I feel your pain on the ice pack part - I left my ice pack strapped to my calve one day, took it off and, wala, burns. The scar still remains on my leg, so I can forever remember my stupidity ;p.

Ouch! Damn rabbits! Sorry to hear about the injury --I say take it easy.
And, since we're quoting from Looney Tunes, my favorite (slightly modified)
"Next week your race this week will be last week, and last week your race this week was next week, and so ...."
Wile E. Coyote, super genius!
Get better soon.
Ouch! That is a tough one to swallow!
Get better and kick some ass!
All,
Portage Lakes was actually a pretty good race. I stayed off the leg almost all of Friday and Saturday, and kept it elevated. Sunday morning, temps were around 35 or so, no ice, but pretty close.
I still had some stiffness in the knee, and the swelling has mostly subsided, so I ran 1/2 mile or so, and it felt pretty good. Problem was, I couldn't get my knee up high enough to enable me to change shoes standing, so I got the bucket out of the truck, racked the bike near the fence, and used the bucket as a seat, so I could change my shoes.
First run, 23:20, knee felt really good, in fact, I felt pretty good all over. Hit the bucket, changed my shoes, charged out of the Transition, and..... Flat rear tire!!! So, I spent almost 10 minutes changing a tubular with cold fingers, and even colder glue strip.
I hammered the bike 1:06:xx, without the 10 minutes or so of standing still! Best Bike split of the year for roughly 40K. The 10K finishing run was 58:xx or so, overall time of 2:50:09.
So, I win the Clydesdale Championship for the 3rd year in a row! Knee feels good tonight, without much swelling, a little in the back of the knee, but I'll throw some ice on it in a few again, and then off to bed. I'll post an article on the changing of the Tubular using the TUFO tape on Tuesday...
Thanks for all of the Kind Words of Encouragement!
Congrats on the title. I'm glad you could do the race. I hope there is no residual swelling. Enjoy the off season and get you leg some rest.
Congrats GG .......and hope you're feeling better.
Threepeat? Very nice! and with a flat, no less...!
Congratulations! Now rest it up thoroughly...
Congrats 3xChamp! :D

GO Clydes!
Bravo, GG! I guess that was a lucky rabbit after all - he took your mind off all that pre-race pressure: can I three-peat? Will I uphold the Clyde-Honour?
Good on yer, mate.
