Bad Dreams
I left my powerbars on my counter last week before my tri. Luckily they were selling them near the transition area.
I tend to exhibit OCD like behaviors when it comes close to race time and I still forget things. I even left my goggles in transition last year before the HIM I did. I was running through the parking lot to get them during the National Anthem.
I've never had any tri specific nightmares though.
chase those nasty nightmares away--do the list, pack up the day before, check your bag twice and have a happy nights sleep. :) .

I don't need to get faster, I just need to get older!
There are two sports specific dreams that I have had periodically my entire life. The first is the sensation of being in a running race and moving extreamley slow. No matter how hard I try it feels liek I am running in water. The second and the worst is swimming and forgetting to breath! I bolt out of sleep with my heart feeling like it is about to explode out of my chest. I don't know how long I was holding my breath in my sleep, but that dream litterally hearts. I haven't had it in a while, but I'm sure I jinxed myself so it will probably happen tonight!

Alarms is right --- I set 3 for the IM!
Can't even count how many times I checked the gear bags.

My reoccuring tri dream is that I dominate the swim (my huge weakness), but can't find the transition area, then can't find my bike, then can't find my gear, then struggle to get everything on. When I finally get on the bike, the bike course turns into a obstacle course. Then I wake up. What does it all mean? :)

I had three crazy dreams before Ironman last year. One that I forgot my wetsuit and the only one available was pink with ruffles and the ruffles caused so much drag that I was swimming at the back of the pack: http://ironmom.blogspot.com/2006/07/ironman-dreams-yep-theyve-started.html
One that I forgot my pedals and they were buried in the camping gear in my car: http://ironmom.blogspot.com/2006/09/ironman-stress-dream-2-i-am-taking-my.html
And one where all the athletes had to stop in the marathon and put on a costume and act out the character for the rest of the marathon. You were judged not only on your finish time, but how well you stay in character during the race ( I was a raven and had to keep flapping my arms and saying "Caw caw caw") : http://ironmom.blogspot.com/2006/11/ironman-dream-3-race-is-over-equipment.html
I have these kinds of crazy dreams before every major race, but usually I've forgotten them. This time I blogged them, so they're pretty funny to read in retrospect! I've got a HIM next week but haven't had any dreams yet. Maybe I'm not stressing over it as much this year...

Dreams are good - unless having them keeps you from getting to the start line!
Like I did at IMC this year. I had trouble getting to sleep and overslept my alarm.
I did actually forget my timing chip STRAP and my BODYGLIDE. I remembered it when I got to sign in.

I think this guy had the same dream only he didn't figure out it wasn't real
He the whole IM WI run in that outfit and never once broke character.

This post must be subliminally suggestive... Woke up in a cold sweat last night that I had missed the start of the IM!!!

Dreams are a fantastic way to see what's going on in your life. I personally have kept a dream journal for years and use it to work through problems.
My favorite race-related dreams include:
- being able to breath water (makes for an incredibly fast swim!)
- forgetting my bike at IMG and asking to borrow one
- wearing skiis that were duct-taped to the bike pedals instead wearing of bike shoes
- running to the water because I missed the start and worrying about my heart rate being too high to make it through the race
- and more commonly, getting lost in any running race, running in circles or fighting to make my legs run
Ohh I love dreams :)

I have the dreams too, but worse is being awake and feeling anxiety about an upcoming race. And though I can't say I've yet conquered this anxiety, for me it helps to put what we do into perspective and not take it too seriously. I (and I assume most others) actually do this for FUN. Or at least a fun way to stay in shape. If it isn't fun, then you may as well take up treadmill walking with your iPod and TV to distract you. If you get too stressed out about it, have bad nightmares, whatever, take a deep breath, remind yourself why you do these things, and consider that you could back out, drop out, volunteer, run/bike/swim, or do something else on your own and not one person on this earth will think lesser of you.
I bought my first bike 9 days before my first triathlon, but I never bought a helmet. My brother was not going to be in the race since he didn't thinkthat he couldn't swim 1500m, I was going to borrow his. A few days before the race I had a dream that he was in the race, and I forgot to buy a helmet. In my dream, the race was 5 min from starting, and I was trying to convince him that since he wasn't going to do very well, he should sit out and loan me his helmet so I can start the race.

I keep having this reoccuring dream where I am arriving at the Tri and I always forget some piece of gear, a wesuit, my helmet, sneakers, goggles or something like that. Man I have this dream around 2-3 times a month. Crazy...must be that chinese food I ate for lunch.
