Power Curves on Trainer

Hi all,

Kinetic's website says the Kinetic Road Machine Fluid Trainer has a power curve based off of the forumla:

P = (5.244820) * S + (0.01968) * S3

where S is speed. Question, are these accurate? If so, why would I need a power meter on a trainer? It seems like I can put the forumla into excel and get power at any speed- I'd just need a spedometer on my bike. Is that correct?

does anyone have the same formula for a cycleops fluid 2 ?

or does anyone have power and speedometer that could give me some real data from a training session ?
