The cool thing about sprints is that you can race every weekend! I love this stuff!!

Today, we had a .25 mile swim (ended up a little short), 10.5 mile bike, and 3 mile run.

I built into the swim for the first 100m or so, then kicked it in high gear when I saw no one wanted to take the lead of the pack. I came in at 4:06 (1/435 OA).

I transitioned pretty fast trying to get on my way to a good bike split b/c I know that if I don't open up a big gap people will pass me on the run. (I don't think there are very many ex-swimmers who learn how to run fast! :D). The course was SO technical....tight turns, cobbles, downhill chicanes on cobbles (yuck!).....so I was glad that I did all of those early-season crits to be able to do that stuff at pretty high speed. There was a pretty tough headwind for a good portion (and not much tailwind later :(). I ended up with 25:32 @ 24.7 mph for 1/435 agian, so I was really happy.

I ran pretty hard, but I can't seem to get my times down to where they were a few months ago (but my bike is getting better, so I don't know what gives...). I ran a 19:01 @ 6:20 pace for 10/435 and finished with 49:49 for 1/435! w00t!! Now it's time for some FLORIDA FOOTBALL!!!

I didnt warn you about the bike course?! Lots of fun! Glad you didnt get passed by the draft packs that can plague that race.

Great Job! You're just lucky I wasnt racing ;)

You didn't say it was going to be THAT crazy! It was probably the most fun bike course I've done in a tri, though. Unfortunately, the volunteers at one corner did get an earful (accidentally).....there was a tight turn at the bottom of a short (but steep) drop, and I came in too hot and was trying to brake while leaning my bike almost sideways, yelling "OH SH!T, OH SH!T, OH SH!T, OH SH!T!!!" I think I missed the curb on the opposite side by less than six inches! :D But, hey, I'm alive!

I know that corner. I hit it at 22mph with the pedal about 1mm from the road surface :D MTBing skills right there, baby! It is a fun course. And plenty fast, looking at your time!

Great Job! I love that race! Its a beautiful course and the smell of fresh bread in downtown Tarpon is great. Very technical though so extra kudos

You need to give Dunedin Sprint a try next year (Race thru Xanadu" Great post race party!!!

Dude, Dunedin has to be the WORST race I have ever done. I had a bad taste in my mouth for a long time after that one. I believe TriGator did do it this year.

Ha! I went to the website to check the results, and the results link sent me to the 2005 results! Had to go to Alta Vista to get the current year- Matt was 3rd.

Sorry you didn't like it. I think its probably the best small race in the area and safer than the cobble stones of Tarpon.

I liked the new run course (one lap) and the direction change for the swim. Still the best post-race party!!

Actually, I felt safer on the cobbles than I did in Dunedin. At least in Tarpon, I knew that if I crashed it was because I did something dumb. In Dunedin, there were two laps, so on the second lap I was riding past all the later waves. There was a really strong wind that day, so for several miles I was sitting on 30-35 mph going by sketchy people on mountain bikes. The road really wasn't wide enough for that. There was a really nice post-race party, though!
