foot cramps while swimming
Same here. Its a combination of hydration and fatigue (especially when you're trying to point your toes outward to keep that nice straight line.)

Cramps - an old family remedy. Take an a couple of eggshells (calcium) disolve it in 7 oz. of pure apple cider vinegar, add a tablespoon of honey. Take 2 tablespoons of the mixture a day.
The apple cider vinegar keeps the calcium in liquid form so the muscles get the necessary calcium thus the cramps stop.
I used to buy liquid calcium at the drug store and used this to stop cramps.
I get cramps all the time when I swim longer distances (over 2000 meters) as well - in the feet as mentioend and also in the legs. Despite how appetizing the home remedy sounds, I think I'll add calcium supplementation.
Geochuck - As I already take a daily multi, should I just add extra calcium on days I have swim workouts or do you recommend a calcium supplement everyday in addition to the multi (which supplies 200 mg calcium)?
Apple Cider Vinegar and calcium is what really works. When you train it is used in the muscles and helps stop cramping.

When I trained race horses I used a lot of both. A drop or two of lugols solution of iodine added to a front runners diet, gave the front runners endurence to finish the race.
Lugols solution of iodine is aquias iodine, don't use churchills iodine. I would have to check to see if the iodine is a banned substance now. I don't think it is.
it happened to me sometimes. u need to just stretch ur foot out and take a minute rest. then it should go away. i think its called a charlie horse. :/

After about 1500-2000 yards of swimming my foot occasionally cramps up. It feels as if the foot is trying to clench into a "fist" without me telling it to do so. Anyone else experience this and/or know of a way to remedy it?
thanks
