Shouldn't Have Done This Run
What training plan had the swim+elliptcal+hammer-pace tempo run in it for the Sunday workout before your first Oly?
There's nothing you can do to improve your swimming fitness between now and Sunday. Stay loose. Active release is amazing....it definitely helped me heal from IT stuff.
I'd say take it extra easy to avoid making anything worse. Just keep your fitness up with some easy/moderate rides and keep swimming like normal. I think even take some time off running. Maybe do a couple recovery runs later in the week if your hip is feeling good (and that's a big IF), but for sure nothing tough. Ice is your friend, too.
Olympic isn't much tougher than a sprint at all....the big jump is up to HIM, so as long as your hip is feeling strong and you don't neglect everything this week (I doubt you would, anyway :D), you should be able to have a strong race.

Not fast enough.
Very cool points, and very valuable. I went to the Red Sox game tonight, and got my mind off the race for a while, sat around, and am just trying to heal up, rest up, and prepare mentally.
Thanks so much all!!

I would say you should rest, from a running standpoint, until the race. I had an IT band flare up on a Wednesday before a Sunday 1/2 marathon. I then took Thurs, Fri, and Sat off. I iced a lot and took ibuprofen. I also massaged the IT band and by Sunday I was in good shape. I felt great on the run. Just rest on the run, if it is your best area, you will be fine anyways.
Yea, good point. I know at this point there isn't much I can improve anywhere by training, but I can harvest many benefits if I'm prudent going in.
PS...those are some bad-a-- picks dude. What did you do?

Yesterday, after a mile swim, an hour on the elliptical, and some rest, I hammered a 7.5 mile tempo run with my friends, resulting in oxygen debt and a very stiff ITB and hip.
I believe it is my ITB, as it only feels tight in the hip region, but when I roll on the foam roller, it screams at me.
So today I woke up, and it was stiff. I went to the local pond for a 1.5 mile swim at race pace, with the wet suit and everything, attempting to emulate Sunday’s race conditions.
I plan on taking at least two off-days before the race, (this week) to recover the best I can.
I also plan on having active release therapy performed on my ITB/Hip region, to expedite the recovery.
What should I be doing before now and Sunday? Running is my strongest discipline, (last week I peaked at 64 miles) and swimming is my weakest. The race is an olympic distance tri, and is my first attempt at the distance.
Thanks all!
