swim plus...?
I usually think of my swimming training almost separately from my biking and running. Putting a hard bike and hard run together is very taxing (albeit beneficial if you can manage not to get hurt), but putting a hard swim with either a hard bike or hard run isn't too bad, so you're right, you can do it pretty well with any workout.
Also, you will have a higher HR biking from a swim than just biking by itself, so practicing that would be beneficial. I don't think that it's as key as doing bike/run, but it'll definitely help. I more often do bike/run, but I'll still do swim/bike once in a while.

Not fast enough.
I will do race simulations where I will S/B/R all in succession as in a race. Will do that a few times in training, other than that my bricks are limited to B/R.

The traditional brick of bike/run seems to be what most folks do to simply get used, or to learn to cope with, transitioning the legs and brain from cycling to running. If you're not used to it, you don't want to feel it for the first time on race day. It can be completely demoralizing.
That being said, I see nothing wrong with doing swim/bike bricks. I don't think you'd get as strong a training effect as you would from the traditional brick, but hey, in the end, it's all about putting stress on the body...have a proper recovery...and coming back stronger.
The Outdoor Journey: Exploring the multisport life through the crucible of endurance
I've been doing Swim/Bikes at least twice a week most of this summer. That way I can run or Brick or weights on the other days.
I think no one does it because it doesn't have a cool name. I guess they could be called "Swipes". Makes as much sense as Brick for Bike/Run.
Bike/run bricks provide great training for race conditions. I also find that I will swim and then do a run; I figure any good long training has got to be good. My favorite is a Saturday morning long swim (for me 1 mile or more) and then a run (4-6 miles) --just as the sun comes up. Favorite part of the day! (Sunday is the bike/run brick day).
in my limited experience, I've come to label swim/bikes workouts as "why do I feel so heavy?" :P
Wrinkle the pavement!
thanks for the input. yesterday i ran and then rested a little bit and felt good so i went and swam.
i feel like i could swimm everyday, even if its slow.

so i hear a lot about bricks... im under the impression that that is a bike workout followed by a run.
i dont hear as much about grouping a swim, or following it with a bike. is that a good strategy as well?
it seems to me like you could do swimming pretty well with any workout because it is such low impact.
