Stomach Issues Part II

Ok, so my stomach just gives up basically at the start of the run in long-distance courses. I seem to be ok in 1/2 IM distances, but anything longer and I cannot eat or drink anything without feeling severely nauseated.

The first time it happened was at the Clearlake 101. I modified my nutrition according to what I learned on that race and just drank water and sucked down gels with great success. However....

That didn't work at Ironman KY. I felt fine on the bike....was even pretty jovial when I went into T2....but when I emerged it was like I caught a stomach bug in the changing tent. Took the first two miles slow and easy while trying to drink and take on fluids (had no problems on the bike whatsoever)....but the sickness was unrelenting. I had a total of one gel, a bunch of ice and probably about 10% of the liquid I should have had during the run. As a result I bonk'd HARD and all the expected stuff happened--cramping, dry heaves, dizziness, difficulty concentrating (what mile am I on?). Walking was difficult even....I was struggling to maintain 12 min. miles for the majority of the race. The fact that I'm not even that sore means that I had plenty of muscle/endurance left, just nothing to fuel it.

I've tried tums, pepto bismol, ice, water, diluted icy cold coke, bananas, gatorade....all of it just makes me want to puke. What else can I try other than just sticking to 1/2s?

Greatness is only achieved by those who perpetually raise the expectations of themselves to the point where it ruins their life.
