Is riding long two days in a row worth the effort/time/recovery?

I'm training for IMFL and need to up my bike miles. Of course the weekend allows more time for this. But I wonder if I would just be beating myself up more than getting stronger.

Opinions? Comments? Experiences?

What are you referring to by long? i.e. two 5+ hour days in succession?
Are you working a long run in here as well?

I get the long run done on Thurs a.m., so no.

I was thinking about 5+hr on Saturday and then another 3hr on Sunday.

Currently I do 100+ every other week, and a 65mile ride/80 min run brick on in between weeks.

I don't see much of an issue with a 5hr followed by 3hr. My training plan (From Joe Friel) has that built into it - not every weekend but many - and I do my long run on that same weekend..

Leading up to IMKY most of my biking time was also on the weekends -- like you I got my long run done during the week. Doing 50ish Saturday and 100+ on Sunday was pretty common for me. And my bike time in the race was way better than before!

a 5+ followed by a 3+ is perfect... try that a couple of times with a couple of weeks spaced in between... :D ride hard.. be safe

I also think a 5hr one day followed by a 3hr the next day is fine. Just make sure you get enough to eat in between.

Go,Go,Go!...rehydrate well and eat well (a la Scotthughes) Or your second workout could really be a downer!

I'll do it! Maybe I just needed a good kick in the pants.

With 6 good training weeks before tapering for IMFL, I guess it's time to buckle down. Thanks everybody!
