Cranberry Country Triathlon
(.8 mi./ 24.9 mi. 6.2 mi.)

Background on me:
This is my 3rd year doing Triathlons I have only done Sprints to this point.

6'1 190 Pounds; BF 8-9%. I use to run indoor tracking in H.S. and I was a lifeguard in college. (No real Open Water Swims)

Final Div/Tot Div Swim Tran1 Bike Tran2 Run

2:43:49 17/31 M3034 27:09 3:14 1:20:15 1:49 51:25

Swim:
(Ate 1 powergel 10 minutes before race)
This was the first Triathlon where I used a wetsuit. I was the 3rd wave and the largest and felt really strong during the swim besides the fact that the water was really shallow on the sides and I scrapped my hands on the bottom. I came out of the water about middle of the pack for my age group. I felt like I have some room for improvement; I need to do more open water swims.

T1 went smooth; no trouble getting off the wetsuit.
(Ate another powergel while moutning my bike)

Bike:
Since I have no aerobars I knew that my shoulders/back was going to pay for the ride. I felt a little slow on the bike; the ride was flat and bumpy (due to bad road conditions) I am thinking about adding clip on's to my Specialized Allez or getting a TriBike. Since there were no mile markers it was hard to tell how far into the bike I was. Once I "felt" like I was coming up to the end of the bike I ate another gel. I wish I had a little more water; must have been 90+ degress with humidity.

T2 went smooth no real problems at all.

Run:
I felt really good on the run; since this was my 1st Olympic I kinda took the run slower than I will next time around. The course was flat with plenty of water and some shade from the sun. A lot of people where laboring through the run but I felt strong. The farther I went the stronger I got. I finished the race with a sprint to the finish. I feel like I could have left more of myself on the race but without knowing the distance I wanted to make sure I would complete the race with a positive feeling.

Overall:
Happy with Swim and Run (with room for improvement); the bike needs some serious work. But so happy to partcipate in the race and now I want to do a Half Ironman.

It felt good at Olypmic. I hope I can do the HIM training and finish up my MBA and work at the same time.

Hell I can do it.

Nice race stats, I see a PR in the future for your next oly.

Training for the HIM will require more time, but you have the winter to build a good base. Look at some different HIM training plans to get an idea of how they can fit into your busy schedule. It's all about time management, 5:00a.m. is a great time to start training ;)

You can do it.

I don't need to get faster, I just need to get older!

Yeah at those distances it's gets hard holding up your upper body with your shoulders/elbows.

I think when I sign up for the HIM I deserve those aero bars.

You for sure deserve aero bars for HIM. Avoid cyclist's palsy.
