I’ve noticed two things about running when I’m regularly cycling.

1.) My acceleration when running up hills is greatly augmented by the training I do on the bike. "

2.) My hip flexors are so tight, that it feels like my hips just aren’t even moving.

Does anyone have any ideas on how to open up my hip flexors after cycling, to produce a more open, natural running stride?

Thanks!

there's a sequence in the back of the book Going Long that is designed specifically for flexibility in the hip joint...do you have that one?

Ah, no I don't have that one, but I have seen it before.

I stretch regularly after every workout, but I don't isolate my hip flexors.

I'll start reading up on that, in hopes of opening them up.

Thanks!

Yep, incorporating hip flexor release stretches is a must and will help a lot.

I noticed when I first started running with a group last year that we were all the same on the flats, but I was much faster up the big hills on the run. Then I realized that I was the only one in the group that rode bikes regularly.

I noticed a similar phenomena when beginning cycling. I really was bad at flats, but going up hills I excelled past everyone. That notwithstanding, I died once the hill climb was over when we were on flats again! hahaha
