Was IMKY a hit???
I looking forward to those race reports. As I'm thinking of signing up for the 08 race tomorrow!!! I want to make sure it's a good one.Has anyone gotten any feedback on the race yet?
I've seen a couple of race reports that say the race was extremely well run and the spectator support was outstanding. The volunteers treated the athletes like supah stahs, too.
The bike course was apparently really tough.
I was glued to IronmanLive for hours.
Heather Gollnick finished in 9:23!!!- That's a 5 minutes PR for her. She did 3 cartwheels down the chute. Awesome!

Think she did 5 for her fifth IM win! She also said that she was retiring the cartwheel...

my training program has no cartwheels in them. I need to get a new plan. :)

I'd be afraid of pulling a groin muscle. But I suppose if you "train" for it, it shouldn't be a problem. :D
Let me know when you find that particular training plan.

IMKY was AWESOME!!!! I'd do it again (if I was doing an IM next year, and if I didn't like to experience new races). Volunteers were some of the best informed I've ever seen, and the whole city seemed excited -- one of the waiters I had before and after the race was on the course, recognized me, and cheered for me!
The organizers had backup plans when the swim wasn't going to work because of Mother Nature, and the day seemed to go really smoothly for me. If you are really attached to using a wetsuit for the swim, this is probably not the race for you. But I never really felt it an issue.
Of course a few negatives -- it was hot during some sections, the runs through the TA were long... but everyone had to deal with them. Oh and it HURT! But it was worth it :)

You are saying that it was not wetsuit legal - was that because of the alternate swim course or would it have been that way on the original course as well?
Still thinking of doing this one - probably '09 - want to do IMWI in '08 again - mostly for logistics - Just read a review of the bike course on another site - and looked to be pretty fast and on really good roads - surfacewise (made up a word there).

The temp of the water was around 85, and the course change just moved the start (the finish was the same) and didn't affect that part. It was definitely too warm for a suit. I didn't even bother to bring mine down with me from the hotel as a just in case. The water temp depends on the amt of rain and the temperatures in the weeks leading up, so it could be wetsuit legal another time.
The bike course was tough but I really liked it. I felt it let me push myself, but also made me keep myself in check (both to keep from going too easy and from going too hard). A few sections of bad pavement, but very minimal. The last 8-10ish miles were on a mostly slight downhill, brand new perfect pavement... it was heaven :)

Yeah great race and from what a lot of people were saying the best, most exciting finish of any race, anywhere. Bike was tough-some 8-10 mph ascents and some 40+mph descents. Flat run- very disheartening though to take us so close to the finish, only to send us back out for a second loop). Great support on course(especially bike support-saved my race) and volunteers were awesome. Fans everywhere on the run! Definitely a hit! Will do again in the future.

Looks like a big success!
Ya, IMWI does that on the run as well - at the 1/2 point on the loop you get close to the finish - can't see it but can hear it. And of course when finishing loop 1 and starting loop 2 you are turned around about 100 yards out from the finish line. I thought it was a bit inspiring. I was like "I'll be back!"

At IMAZ you also have a loop course... a decent bit farther from the actual finish, but you still see that sign of finish only a little further and have to pick "do it all again".
