Nooo!! Could use a prayer! :)
Hi! I'm not a runner, but all I can say is I'm going to send you positive waves. Take it easy, and don't race into brand new shoes!

Yeah, I wouldn't race in new shoes on race day, unless its an emergency and you get the exact same pair of shoes, same brand, same type.
From now til race day, spend some time doing long IT stretching (holding for 30 seconds to one minute). Maybe get a massage if possible. On race day, spend time warming up and stretching. You may have to stop on occasion during the race and stretch if you feel things getting funky.
Good Luck :) Let us know how it went...

Well, I am no expert here, specially with running issues but, I know that you should never run any race in a pair of brand new shoes. That is one tip a Marathon friend of mine told me when I said to her in June of 06 that I was planning to buy a new pair of shoes one week before my Iron Man race in September, so I could look "cool".
She imediately told me not to do that, because I will be suffering the entire Marathon.
Your new shoes need time to be "broken into" so, I suggest you run in your old ones.
This are my .02 Good luck.

Oooops!!!!! I forgot.......here go some good healing ~~~~~~~~ and, of course, a prayer. Take care.

Go get a massage today. It'll take Saturday to recover from the massage, but Sunday will feel better. You don't even need to go in for very long because you only need the one part of your leg worked on, so it shouldn't cost more than about 30 bucks or so.
There's another thread going on about taking drugs and racing, but it's about Ironman stuff. For a half marathon I'd definitely be comfortable taking something to keep the IT from acting up. I wouldn't want to get used to popping pills, but once in a while isn't going to have a huge adverse effect on your health. I've had good luck with 800mg of Ibuprofen about an hour before racing for IT issues.
Good luck!!

Not fast enough.
The knee help up! I had a really good race. I felt very comfortable the whole run, the weather was perfect, and my body felt really good. I didn't push it as I wanted to protect my knee. Finished in an hour 47. It was a lot of fun. On to the next event.
I've had ITB band issues too.
When I started running I couldn't go more than a mile or two without severe ITB pain. I saw my Dr. and got physical therapy. PT mostly had me doing exercises to strengthen and stretch my leg muscles.
But what really helped me is my foam roller. It's like a deep tissue massage every day (maybe. I've never had a sport massage). But I would definitely buy one, and roll out your ITB religiously every day--and after each run. For the first few months the pain from doing this was severe, and it has gradually gotten better. Now when I roll on it, my ITB feels pretty good. The knots that I used to feel are mostly gone, or smaller, and not as tender.
I haven't had ITB issues for a good long time, and will be doing my first half iron tri in 2 weeks. Here's hoping the knee holds up too.

Way to go, I am glad that your knee held up. Way to go on the time and enjoy the training for the next race.

So I had IT band issues throughout the past winter and early spring. Decided to foolishly run hills and stairs multiple days in a row in the middle of winter! Dumb. Finally shook it early may and have been training ever since. I am set up to do a 1/2 marathon this Sunday. I was going for my last long run on Wednesday, a 7 miler, and about 50 minutes into the run, as I was nearing the finishing point, my IT band knee pain flared up! I stopped right away, sat and streched for about 5 minutes, walked the next 800m to the front of my neighborhood, figured, "what the heck lets run the rest of the way for a test" and was able to run the last 1200m home with no pain. Iced and took Ibuprofen after and have been icing, doing a little streching, and taking Ibuprofen since. No real pain since the minor flare up, but obviously won't know for sure until im about 45min to an hour into the race. I am obviously nervous. I am cautiously optimistic as usually when the IT band problem comes it comes hard with pain that doesn't go away for at least a few days. I am praying it was minor, and with Thurs, Fri, and Sat off I will be OK for the race. Has anyone ever tried those IT band knee braces? I am planning on going to the local running store to get one for the race. Might even end up buying new shoes as mine are getting worn and I know that can be a causing factor. Just hoping I am able to race. Been working hard and don't want this to stop me! Your prayers are greatly appreciated as well as any pre-race advice!
