Quick, probably stupid one from an IronVirgin: If we arrive at IMLOU on Friday, but don't have to have bike in T1 until Sat., do you take it to T1 then(Fri) or does it stay with you/vehicle/hotel room/etc. until Sat? I assume there is always race personnel in T1 and the bikes are watched over there, but I just don't know. I've never been to a Tri 2+ days prior to start.

The deadline for giving up your bike is probably 5pm Saturday - it will tell you in the race package.

Until then you can use it to ride around the vicinity of race central, back and forth to your hotel, etc. and save your legs from all that walking.

There are security guards on the bike compound all night but you can visit your bike to make last minute adjustments, over inflate your tires through excitement - ensuring a blowout just before the swim start or sprinkle Holy Water on it, or whatever little rituals you like to perform before a race.

Personally, I like to rub some freshly-sacrificed chicken blood on the frame.. :D

I keep mine in my room with me. You can keep it to go for a light spin if you want. Our hotel provided us an old sheet to put them on the floor so we could keep them in the room, will be doing that again tomorrow :)

I ride it once or twice...take it out to dinner, sleep with it....not let it out of my sight until I have to! I go early on Saturday (10-11) and then forget about it until 5 am on Sunday...The place will be crawling with vols and security all night...not to worry.

The bike check-in time is the day preceding the race (check the race packet) . Prior to that I don't think there is any security at T1 - at least nothing that I saw at IMWI anyway.
Besides I need to keep mine with me until the last minute - separation anxiety!

Agasp! How can you be away from the bike at all?!?! It's become an extension of you hasn't it? Normally they don't let you but I like to sleep w mine at transition the night before the race :p

Seriously, you only take it there Sat. for one night, the night before the race.

This thread has taught me so much more than I ever hoped to know about triathletes and their bikes. I'm thinking it goes back to being grounded from your BMX during childhood.

Then you can take your bike in the shower with you after the race to make up for the previous night...

Oh, be sure to have some large trash bags / plastic to wrap the bike up - in case of rain - want to keep the components dry overnight.
Also nice to tuck the bike in all snug and dry when having to leave it....

you can love your bike, just don't, "LOVE" your bike...

I keep mine in my hotel room until the last minute. That way I know it's safe, I can put one final coat of wax on it, and I can talk to it.

Good at least I'm not the only one that talks to their bike :)

I read that they don't allow full bike covers in T1. ??? Maybe because they fear its owner will end up creeping in to sleep with it overnight?

Greatness is only achieved by those who perpetually raise the expectations of themselves to the point where it ruins their life.

Yeah this race isn't allowing that... only covers for bike computers.
