Online this year is going to be a crapshoot.

2006 -- sold out in approximately 6-7 hours online.
2007 -- sold out in approximately 90 minutes, with many people claiming they could not get through to Active.com.
2008 -- ? (but IMLP 2008 sold out online in under 30 minutes this year, again with people claiming they could not connect through Active.com).

If you're doing it online, find out exactly when it will be open, and be logged in to Active (best to create an account beforehand). And cross your fingers.

As PJT said set up an account before you begin the registeration process, like now.

Online registering is becoming more of a crapshoot. You need to be on active.com before registration opens, maybe 5 or so minutes, then use the refresh key so you don't time out as registration time gets closer.

IMLP got so hammered this year that they postponed the registration by 1 hr, I remained on and just kept hitting refresh every once in awhile.

IMLP '08, acording to ironman.com sold out in a couple of minutes. I got a slot, but I'm sure a big part of it was just being lucky enough to hit the register tab at the right second.

IMWI is a popular race, last year it sold out in 20 minutes and following the trend of quick sellouts, I wouldn't be surprised if it didn't close out in a couple of minutes this year.

If you can't be there, grab a rabbits foot, log on early and have that trigger finger ready. lol.

IMLP was so hammered, the rumor was (I was present but not in line) that after the vouchers had been givin out only 800 slots remained. Really, that is not a lot, considering how many thousands of folks were probably on line. IMLP is soon to be one of those races where you have to be there the morning after to get a voucher or you won't get in.
Many indie IM's have slots open the week before the race.

Just go pro.....it's a lot easier to get into the races. I mean, come on, doing an Ironman in 8 hours isn't that hard. :D

That is an alternative ... but for IMWI registration: I know on-site registration is at 09:00 CST - I thought that on-line was also at 9:00 - but check for sure on active.
