Chain Cleaner Machine
I've got the Park Tool Cleaner and have no complaints. It is built well and works great.
I can't help you on the Pedro's chain machine.
I have the Park. It works moderately well. I imagine the Pedros one does, too. They make decent stuff. Nothing beats taking the chain off, soaking it in degreaser, and scrubbing with a toothbrush.
Life is short. Play hard and get dirty doing it.
Since I switched to a wax lubricant (White Lightning, but I'm sure they're all similar) I don't clean my chain as often or in the traditional way.
The one drawback to wax is your drivetrain will need more regular attention as I find wax doesn't last as long as oil. The outstanding advantage is the dirt shedding actually works as billed. After maybe 100 km of riding just lube the chain as you would with oil. While the chain is still wet, hold a shop rag on the chain as you back pedal to mop up the excess . Moistened dirt comes off like magic. Works like a charm. Takes a couple of minutes. Every few applications also wipe the chainrings and rear cluster (as best you can) with a dry rag.
Maybe once a month I go in with a dry rag and get in the nooks and crannies. Only time I use chain degreaser anymore is on a newly purchased chain.
If you decide to switch from oil to wax just be sure you thoroughly degrease your chain as oil and wax should never be used interchangeably.
I'm w/ Triguy on this. I use the Park contraption when I'm feeling lazy and just want to remove most of the grime. For a real cleaning, taking off the chain and putting it in degreaser is the way to go. I usually remove & clean the cassette while I'm at it too. When the chain is off, it's also a good time to get at the jockey wheels on the derailleur to scrub those as well.
After I use the degreaser, I rinse throroughly, dry, re-install, & re-lube.
You really don't need the machine. Pro bike mechanics use just a brush and some spray degreaser like "simple green".
Put your bike up on the repair stand. Spray the degreaser on the cogset and chain. Place your brush (dedicated for drivetrain only) on the cogset and turn the crank and get all the muck off the chain and cogset.
After you degrease, you can dip the brush in soap and water and clean things up a bit more. After you have cleaned and dried the drivetrain, use a lubricant such as "white lightning" and make sure to wipe off the excess.
That's it. Just takes a few minutes and if done every other week or so you will have a nice smooth and clean machine.
In my opinion, this does a much better job than those contraptions that you strap on to the bike and fill with degreaser. You just have to get a new drive train brush every so often.
