OK.....you may recall my post about getting used to the aero position, etc. Since then, I've spent several mornings becoming "at one" with my bike (Cervelo PS2L) It is working just fine. Loving the bike.

Now, here's my question. When I stand up on the pedals, I seem to immediately slow down....almost like some invisible being tapped my breaks for a second.

Sound familiar to anyone?

I am a roadie by nature, so maybe I am too upright when I stand?

I don't plan on spending significant time standing, but I like occassionally come out of the saddle on climbs, and also just to get a stretch every now and then.

Comments?

Don't worry about it. If you are standing, you are creating huge amounts of power for climbing or acclerating, so chances are you speed is low and power trumps aero at that point.

You are going from a very aerodynamic position to making yourself a large sail. If you are only going to be doing this during climbs, your speed should be low enough that it will not matter.

Second Red5 and Tri Dan...standing for climbing, as I'm sure you know, generates tons of power but of course increases aero drag. You said your a roadie, so maybe your standing up a little too much...when I'm in my aero position, I just stretch my back a bit while remaining seated, then, since I have a road bike that I converted, I get into the drops and sprint back to my previous speed and take my position again. When you stand up, since you have the P2, use your bull horns but bend your elbows so that you don't make yourself into a gigantic sail...unless your going with the wind!

I agree with Ozzie, I spend almost all of my time in the Aerobars, except the steep climbs. For little hills, I just stay in the bars, and chug away, trying to keep my cadence normal by shifting gears (90 rpm or so). Works for me!
