Broken Rib with Training
My husband trained through his 2 yrs ago. If you can handle it, don't see why not but you may want to verify with your Dr. :)
OMG! I was just getting ready to post about my broken ribs and found this one!
IronDan I really do feel your pain! And it sucks!
It has been three weeks since my accident (spectacular endo on the mountain bike). I have tried at various times to train through the pain, but haven't been able to do any running or swimming. Biking is slow at best. This weekend I missed one half iron race, and I'm hoping to not miss another one that I have booked for September. The way the pain persists is truly incredible. My first Dr. visit the day after the crash was not helpful at all in advising how much pushing through the pain will cause more damage. I am going to a sports medicine doc on Friday though to get xrays and more of a solid recommendation. I will try to remember to post with the advice that I get...although I know it is different for everyone, for various reasons.
I hope you start to feel better soon.
A guy from my tri club was training for the swim around Manhattan (why anyone would want to do that I don't know!) and somehow got a cracked rib. His doctor said no swimming, because the rib could break, and, obviously puncture a lung. Not good. This happened around two months out of IM Austria...he trained on the bike, did little running and swmming. So at IMA, he finished the swim in under an hour, the bike took him over 8 hours, and he walked the marathon. He finished IMA with 15 minutes to spare before the cutoff.

I feel ya too - I cracked a rib last year - it hurt quite a bit to do pretty much everything, so I basically took two weeks off. IMO, you can let pain be your guide.

I think that I may have cracked a rib, but since there is nothing that they can do for a broken rib, if I can handle the pain of training, which I have been able to do, is it harmful to run with a possible cracked rib.
