no wetsuit for Lake Geneva half IM?
I do not know the answer to your question, but I will say that most of my research about this race says that most have wetsuits. I did read a race report once from someone that did not have one.
Did you know that USAT pulled its sponsorship/approval of this race due to concerns? I guess that has essentially never happened, so they have to really be screwing something up. I was thinking about doing the Olympic distance there this year and/or half next fall (I have been up there before and it is a very beautiful area) but this concerns me. Many race reports really dog it and I have heard safety concerns as well.
I tell my friends: the entire world has always been in high def - get out there and enjoy it
I am still thinking of registering for the Lake geneva half Ironman on sept. 8. I am not the strongest triathlete by any means and know that I will definitely be at the boot end of the pack after looking at past years' results. However, I have trained hard all summer and am keeping it open as of now. However, I do not own a wetsuit, nor do I have the money to invest in one. I have tried to find a friend to borrow one, but none of the sizes work out. Will I die without one? Will I be the only one without?
Do you think you can swim this distance without a wetsuit? If the answer is no then get one at all costs; I bought a Tri-Wetsuit for $100 works great.
I wouldn't worry about other Triathletes just run your own race. But at this distance I would be wearing a wetsuit because without it I would be a little tired for the bike/run.

I did this race 2 years ago--won't do it again due to the aforementioned safety/organization issues. Like most half-iron races around here, if it's wetsuit legal, 95% of the field will wear one. The water will be warm enough to swim without, but people want the speed advantage.
I agree with PJT - The other issue with Lake Geneva is that they run many distance races at the same time. It gets pretty hectic the last 500 yards or so as you will run into a ton of other swimmers from the other races. There was quite a bit of thrashing going on when I did it. Just something to be aware of.
