1. My stand alone half marathon is 1:31:00 (6:57). My 10K during Olympic distance is 41:27 (6:40). What pace should I go for on my half ironman run?

2. How many calories per hour on the bike do I need? Do I need to try to get protein in?

3. unrelated question, are all 2008 official ironmans pretty much sold out?

OK, I'll play! :) Despite a total lack of the really important info...or any info at all I'll say:

1. You'll be around 1:45-1:50 on the run depending on how good a cyclist you are.
2. Try and get in 4 gels, 3 bottles of water, 3 bottles of Gatorade. Skip the protien.
3. Only the races that have already been run are sold out. IMFL, IMWI, and IMKY are still to be run so they still have '08 slots.

Check their web site to see when registration opens. It's usually the next morning.

spazz, you are about the same exact pace as me. Red is right. About 1:45 is spot on, unless you blow up.

I disgree with the protein question though. I have found that over longer distances (sustained exercise, over 3 hrs), Gatorade isn't sufficient. I use Carbo Pro and/or HEED while on the bike. I throw in a Powerbar as well. I then carry water on the run.

It's really a personal choice though. All of us have different nutritional/caloric needs.

+1 on protein - I recommend it for anything over an hour or two. That said, do not add it for the first time in a race. :)

I love the accelorade/accel gel/endurox product line and use it all.

I tell my friends: the entire world has always been in high def - get out there and enjoy it
