Body Marking
Nothing more than some soap and a wash cloth for me.

I've had the best results with a natural peppermint soap (from Trader Joe's) and a loofa. But any soap and water tends to do a pretty good job.
For some shorter races, where I'm not worried about wearing off the number, I'll make sure to put sunscreen or lotion on first to make it easier to get off.
I shower normally and when it comes off it comes off.
It is definitely a badge of honor thing.
My kids think it is cool now.:D
Nothing to it, but to do it
my markings are off before the race is half over. My numbers on my arms wear off when sweating in my wetsuit before the swim even starts.
I wondered why they even mark us sometimes. They need to number like they do at IM Hawaii.

Strange but true...rub in some cheap conditioner. It's an old swimming trick from when we used to write event numbers on our hands...every weekend. That or a little loofa (fake or real) or any type of gentle exfoliating scrub works pretty well.
I'm not too sure on this, but I think Alcohol might set the mark. Anyone know for sure?
Just keep um...people will know that your not just a crazy workout fiend after they realize you do some races in between the time you spend on your bike, in the pool, and on the trails.
Someone (a long distance runner who is married to a triathlete) told me baby oil would take it off. I haven't tried it yet (b/c of the "badge of honor" thing). :)
I second Tri-ac. Nothing works better than soaping up and using your fingernail to "scratch" the numers off. The real problem then becomes how do you get rid of the numbers when they are sunburned into your skin.
They're easier to get off if you put on lotion/sunscreen before hand.
Also, lotion/baby oil help to get them off...
I forgot to apply sunscreen once before a HIM... I had my number sunburned into my shoulder and my age burned into my calf for a good week. Talk about a 'badge of honor'.

Well , I know for IMC they tell you not to put your sunscreen on first just for that reason. It will cause the number to wash off.
Typically soap and water takes it right off though. I don't really have a problem with it.
I use nail polish remover to remove the ink then wash with soap.

Mine are always 95% off after a 1/2 , the rest comes off easy to me just showering.

I wouldn't think that it would stick around through all of my fluid loss, but it does. Despite my scrubbing, I find that mine stick around as well - at least until the 2nd post race shower. I don't mind the badge of honor though.

if you put sunscreen on when you get up at 4am, it should be dry for bodymarking...and if it's the "sport" or "waterproof" kind, it should stay with you up to olympic distance no problem...AND as britda says, it should also wash off really cleanly
halfer's and IM'ers may not have a good solution except scrubbing

Ok, this is a silly question but I gotta know. How the heck does one remove the body markings after the race, without scrubbing the day lights outs of one's skin? I tried rubbing alcohol, which removes some of the marking, but not all. And yes, I do shower thoroughly afterwards too. The markings are faint, but are still there.
While the body markings have become a bit of a badge of honor for me, I'd still like to know how to clean up afterwards. :D
