I am doing my 1st Olympic Tri in about 2-3 weeks. I have done 5-6 Sprints before and I was wondering if anyone would recommend or change nutrition/hydration or anything during this race. I am excited for this race because I know I have the endurance. Thanks for any tips/suggestions.

I feel like the difference between sprint and olympic is pretty small. It's the jump up to HIM that is a big change. I usually just take water and gatorade during a sprint, but I'll take 1 gel during an olympic. I even feel that the pacing is almost the same, too. Good luck!

Yeah...I'll tape at least one gel to the top tube of the bike...but I also take one about 15 minutes before the swim start. Get out of the water with you're HR under control. I'm usually a little more conservative on the bike...because I know a lot of folks won't be...I usually pass a mess of people on the run who blew by me on the bike.
All the best!

I do pretty much all of my hydration and nutrition stuff on the bike, consuming one gu (Apple Cinnamon HammerGel = Good) right after the swim then another about 40 to 50 minutes in. I also generally have one water bottle of Gatorade Endurance Formula and then either H20 or H20 spiked with Nuun Electrolyte tablets (dependent upon the heat). I try and finish a majority of those bottles earlier in the race rather than later as to allow my stomach some emptying time. Lastly, I have one gel packet, maybe just a half, at about 20 minutes into the run and wash it down with some water. From there on out, water is about the only thing you should need and maybe just to splash in you face. I sweat the most during the run so I make sure I have plenty of fluids (maybe grabbing a cup of Powerade/Gatorade at a hydration station).

I am planning on a few more gels and a energy drink for the bike. I guess not much of a change; thanks for the HR tip coming out of the swim.

Anton's got it right, IMO. Since it's your first Oly, take the swim and ride a little easier than you might think you need to. Just a little. I took two gels at my last race- one halfway through the bike, and one right before T2. The second gel just about got me through the race. I wouldnt take more than two.

Life is short. Play hard and get dirty doing it.

have fun, and leave wanting to do another :)

(notice I didn't say "finish wanting to do another"... finish feeling crappy from pushing yourself, but let the high kick in after that)
