i've gone through the rubber nozzle fitting on my floor pump way too fast for me to believe it's a wear and tear issue. my lbs was kind enough to replace it a no charge last time, but i'm 2 mos down the road and the head is blowing off the valve before i can get up to pressure. i'm ready to get another brand instead of another short-lived replacement.

so, if you've had good experiences with the durability of your floor pump, please let me know what it is and how long you've had it.

[presta valve or dual fitting recommendations]

Thanks!

I've had great luck with Topeak pumps like the Joe Blow Sport and Sprint. I use clinchers exclusively, though, so I can't vouch for them over 125 PSI.

I've been using a Wrench Force for a couple of years. No problems getting tubulars over 150 psi.

I always had problems with those dual pump heads (shrader / pista combo).
I now use a Silca pump with the head designed JUST for presta valves. You have to replace the the rubber guts every year or so...but it works great.

Serfas FMP-500. Combo head allows for both Shrader and Presta valves. Had some trouble at first with simply not pushing the pump head down hard enough onto the tire valve. Once I figured that out, it's been great since. Max pressure is 260psi so both Clincher and Tubular tires can be inflated.

I've been happy with this one for about 4.5 years so far...

I like it better than some other pumps that I've tried that cost twice as much.

I've only heard about these periferally...how does the mechanism work? does it get twisted once it's on the valve?

Tri-ac. It just slides over the valve stem. It's kinda heavy and it has a rubber washer inside that grabs the valve stem. I think that as more air pressure is applied the harder it grips (but I am not an engineer so could be my imagination).
You might check out BikeNashbar, I think I saw them on sale there for $59 (plus free shipping).
Good luck.

I have been using that cheap-o 20 dollar pedros floor pump for almost a year and have had no problems so far. I have used it up to about 200psi with no problems before, but I typically only put my tires at 110psi.

Silca Track pump. Gold standard of pumps. It will outlive you. Mine's 20 plus years old. Every decade all you need to put a little grease on the gasket.

And its made of Columbus tubing so it's got old school italian cache.
