Lake Geneva Loses USAT Sanctioning
It is necessary tho - You would have to believe that the USAT gave them lots of warning that this would happen if they did not rectify the issues. Kinda let's you see that the RD is not all that concerned with safety etc. I was hoping that they would have addressed the issues that we all saw. Tho I only did 2 events by that RD ;)

Is the Oshkosh Triathlon included in this race circuit that has been sanctioned?
And here I am on my way moving to Wisconsin. That's disappointing coming from North Carolina where there is no shortage of well run races (although, I do think that some of the races that Setup Events puts on need to be capped sooner, 1100 people in a sprint is just too crowded for me).
Oshkosh is not part of that group. That one is run by Midwest Sports Events.
biochem, you'll still find plenty of races to run in Wisconsin/Northern Illinois. Just a shorter season here.

Don't worry - there are a lot of good races in the area! What part of 'sconsin?

I'm not surprised that Lake Geneva got their sanctioning pulled. I did one race there, the Lake Geneva Oly distance in 2005. They were still taking money from people at race day registration while the waves they were supposed to be in were starting at the beach. The course was great, LAke Geneva is nice, but transition was poor - crowded, and the HIM people were having to dodge everyone else who had already finished their race as they came in from the bike leg.
Thank goodness there are lots of other great, well-run races in WI and elsewhere!
I did they Oly in Lake Geneva this past weekend Sept 8, and damn how disorganized and poorly done. I can't even describe the choas. Never again, now I understand why they lost their sanctioning. A good Lake Geneva tri is the Big foot Tri on the east end of the lake earlier in the season. Running away Multisports did a good job with it.
Yeah I love the Big Foot Tri... I've done it 3 times and its one of my favorite races ever. There are a ton of other races in the area. I've done about 30 tri's in the area and I've never done one put on by that wacko.
Too bad that the lose of sanctioning didn't shake him up to put on a better race.
I haven't tried Big Foot - I do want to work a couple new races in this up coming season. Will have to check it out.

I agree that Big Foot (not run by the LG guy) is a pretty good race. The run course was a bit long this year, though--7 miles instead of 6.2. The RD acknowledged that to us in an email, so I'm hopeful that will be corrected next year.
I did the 70.3 in LG last weekend. Very disorganized and shady RD. Prob. wont do it again. Has anyone ever done the great illini challenge? I had intended to sign up for IM WI 2008 but was unable to sign up. (i think it filled up in 10 seconds online, ha!) anyway, the great illini challenge has a full distance and its around the same time of year so i could still have all summer to train hard and was thinking of doing it. any info would be great thanks....

Wild stuff. As someone who has done 3 events put on by that RD, (I know, I'm a slow learner), I fully support USAT's decision. I'm impressed that USAT acted on the complaints about these races, though somewhat sad that it had to come to this.
