This weekend was supposed to be an easy 30 min swim Sat morning followed by a 4 hr group ride where I was to sit in for most of the ride. Sunday was a 2.5 hr run. Not too hard of a weekend until....Friday evening my dad shows up with a truck with 4 huge boxes. This Sunday was my daughter's 2nd birthday and grandpa bought her a swingset. We tried our hardest to have it done by the party sunday.

Weekend training totals:
Saturday 7:30-8:30 work on swingset straight. Ate while working on set. Total 13 hrs +/-.
Sunday 8:00 to 5:30, work on swingset. 30 minute break for cake and icecream.

Total time tri training/distance: 0/0.

Total hrs hauling wood, cutting, drilling, bolting, screwing (no...not that kind), climbing, bending over, twisting etc...to put this thing together: 20+ hrs.
Nutrion: Sat: 3 pb&J sandwiches for lunch, pizza for dinner. All taken while working on set.
Sunday: Turkey and ham sub on wheat, 1pc birthday cake, 2 scoops icecream.

Here is a pic of the item that kicked my a$$ all weekend.

Look of joy on daughter's face when finally able to climb on and play from it, totally worth blowing off this weekend! :)

Very nice.
And no smashed thumbs or other injury!
Ya nothing beats seeing that happiness in your kids face - and on top of that you got ice cream! :D

Few splinters and some blisters from truning ratchets for hours on end. Was a fun weekend alltogether!

Yeah she loves it. Must have been up the ladder and down the slide 500 times as soon as it was done. Poor thing cried her eyes out when it started raining and we had to go inside!

Was a nice 'break' from tri training and although I didn't sit around and loaf it was a nice change of pace. I might log it as two VERY long core workouts! It was also the first time I"ve had 2 consecutive days off where I didn't swim, bike or run since I don't know when!

That's AWESOME! I'd have loved a swing set like that when I was a kid. Shoot, enlarge it a little, put a rock wall on it, and I'd like it now! ;)
Some of the best workouts during training arent tri workouts. Swingsets, moving, backpacking, all do a lot to make you stronger. And you have a happier kid now, and thats always a big bonus.

Life is short. Play hard and get dirty doing it.

LOL...actually, the ladder at the end of the tunnel has climbing 'rocks' screwed into the rungs. Just right for the kids!

Im with you too in that when I was a kid I could have only dreamed of something like this. We just had the old set with two swings and a two person glider all made out of metal and simple A frame on each end with the one bar across the middle. You know, the one that when you would swing hard enough you could rock the whole thing until you had the legs about 2 feet off the ground!

I had one of those when I was a kid too! Your daughter is very lucky..

That thing looks like it should be in a school playground somewhere!
