Swim- 5900 yards
Bike- 162.8 miles
Run- 27.75 miles
Total Time- 12:30
I was a little light this week but with good reason. I cut short a swim so I could spend time helping my wife swim her first laps in a pool! I'm so proud of her. Already a sub 4:30 marathoner, know she wants to learn to swim to try a triathlon. She figures if you can't beat 'em, join 'em! Then on Saturday, we hiked up to Mt. Humphreys, a 10 mile roundtrip hike up to 13,000 feet, the highest point in AZ!
The next morning, I got up at 4:00am to get ready for my long ride. It was actually raining somewhat! This would be my first ride in the rain in like 5 months. It just doesn't rain here that much, but when it does, all the sand washes into the road. As i was riding along at pace, bits of sand would blast my shines and kick off my wheel into my face. Not very comfortable. And then I thought to myself, "SUCK IT UP, BUTTERCUP!" I'm training for the World 'effing Championships of IRONMAN. It's going to be a rude reality check for me. Here in my local pond, I've never raced a triathlon in my life where I haven't placed in my AG. Currently I'm ranked 4th in men 35-39 in the entire Southwest region and 39th Nationally. At Kona, that mean.....Squat. I'll be lucky to go top 40 and break 10 hours. But I'll be damned if I'm not going to show up the best prepared I can and savor that momen for as long as I can still race. So as the rain fell and the sand stung I felt so thankful to God for giving me this day and the chance to go on this ride. 75.5 miles, 22mph with 3060 ft of climbing at a comfortable HR 6 bpm below my IM average.

Where did you do your ride?
That sounds pretty insane. I'd like to give it a try sometime.

Cute pooches!

Way to suck it up and find the positive in your ride that day. THAT is why you've done so well and you will continue to do well, even at Kona! It's all about attitude... and quite a bit of training your a$$ off. :)

Keep up the good work! We're rooting for you!

Golden's come in two colors, blonds and red. These two are VERY red and are often confused as Irish Setters.
